Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition

Honda has announced that the Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition goes on sale in Europe in March 2009. This limited edition has been produced to mark the end of production for the award winning sports car.

The white exterior will be matched with a red leather interior and complimented by unique red colouring for stitching on the gear lever gaiter. Ultimate Editions will be marked out by their unique numbered plaques on the kickplates, denoting their position in the series.

The Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition retains its highly acclaimed 2.0 litre 9000 rpm VTEC engine and combines it with a Grand Prix White body and graphite coloured alloy wheels.

The shade of the paint evokes the colour first used on Honda's 1964 F1 car and many sporting models since. The exterior colour combination with the dark metal alloy wheels and unique black S2000 badging gives a fresh look to the timeless shape of the roadster body.

The 2-seater sports car may now be almost 10-years old, but its 240PS 2-litre is still one of the highest output per litre and highest revving engines ever made.

In recognition of its incredible power output, the Honda S2000's engine has won the International Engine of the Year category for 1.8 to 2.2 litre engines five times in its lifetime.

As the name suggests, the Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition will be the last version before global production of the model ceases altogether at the end of June 2009.

Since the introduction of the Honda S2000 in 1999 until the end of 2008, Honda has sold 110,673 units worldwide - 19,987 of those in Europe.

Audi R8 V10

The Audi R8 is a mid-engined sports car introduced by the German automaker Audi in 2006, appearing at auto shows and events all over the world. The R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame, which contributes to the car's relatively light weight.

Audi announced in 2005 that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, appearing at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show and 2003 International Motor Show. The R8 was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There is some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the Le Mans winning R8 LMP and also the 1989 Mk 11 Rover 200, codenamed R8.

The R8 is used as a safety car in Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters racing series.

I won't mention the name of the food distribution company who's truck must have come within three feet of my bumper on a very snowy exit ramp forcing me to exit much faster than I felt safe driving in those conditions.

As Safety and Compliance guy for a trucking company several years ago, I took a call from a lady about our driver bearing down on her in heavy traffic, she was terrified for herself and two kids in the car, she said she thought she was going to die. She later wrote me a letter passionately describing her ordeal.

Unfortunately this happens all too often and does sometimes cause drivers to panic and make a mistake which on the highway can be deadly.

It doesn't have to be a truck though. Some drivers can be intimidated into making a foolish mistake they would not have made otherwise by a car tailgating them or it could develop into a case of road rage.

Don't Tailgate! Most of the accidents I see (and I see a lot) are from people following too close! Leave at least TWO to THREE seconds between vehicles - in good conditions.

BMW Z8

The BMW Z8 was a convertible supercar automobile produced by BMW from 2000 to 2008. It was given the E52 BMW model code.

The Z8 originated from a prototype designated Z07, which was designed by Henrik Fisker at BMW's Designworks in Southern California. It was showcased at the Tokyo Auto Show in 1997. The car was originally designed as a styling exercise to both echo and celebrate the BMW 507 of the 1950s for its 50th birthday.

The overwhelming popularity of the prototype show-car led to the decision to put the car into limited production, to be designated Z8. The car was featured in the James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough in late 1999. It also featured in a number of video games. About 5700 Z8s were built, with about half of them exported to the USA.

The $130,000 car had an all aluminum chassis and body and used a 4.9 L (4941 cc) 32 valve V8, which propelled the vehicle with 400 hp (294 kW) and 500 Nm. This engine was built by the BMW Motorsport subsidiary, and were also used in the E39 M5. Performance specs touted a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time of 4.7 s, which was later tested at 4.2 s by Motor Trend magazine. Car and Driver magazine also tested the car and found that it outperformed the benchmark Ferrari 360 Modena in the main three performance categories: acceleration, handling and braking. The Z8 held BMW's production car performance records for several years.

BMW 320d xDrive

The E46 automobile platform is the fourth generation of BMW's highly successful 3 Series entry-level luxury car / compact executive car. It was introduced in 1998 and replaced the E36 sedans the same year. The touring and coupé models appeared for 2000, and the compact version for 2001. Despite being introduced last, the E46 compact was the first to be replaced when 1 Series was launched in September 2004.

The E46 underwent a facelift for 2002, which included redesigned headlights, new bumpers and a stiffer chassis. Also, the 316i and 318i models received new, more powerful engines.

In mid-2005 the E46 sedans were phased out in favour of the new E90. The E46 touring was also replaced later that year. As of May 2006, the E46 remains in production as coupé, convertible and M3. The E92 coupé is expected to hit the market in September 2006. When the remaining E90 versions will appear is still uncertain, hence the production of the E46 probably continues well into 2007.

The E46 experienced enormous success in all markets and was widely considered the performance benchmark of its class. The record year for the E46 was 2002, when 561,249 vehicles were sold worldwide.

The 2009 World Car of the Year Awards are now officially launched. The inaugural World Car title was first handed out in 2005 to the Audi A6. Ford Duratec/ZeTec Trouble Codes P1151, P1131, P0174, or P0171

All four of these codes indicate a problem with a lean condition. This engine is known for vacuum leaks, so before you start throwing oxygen sensors at the problem, it pays to perform some diagnostics.

Start by cleaning the MAF sensor. Spray the sensor with CRC MAF sensor cleaner (even though Ford tells you to replace it because it can’t be cleaned). Next, check the plastic vacuum lines, especially where they meet with rubber boots. If they are cracked or the rubber is swollen, replace the line. Then check the rubber elbow that holds the PCV valve. That elbow is a know failure point. In fact, the entire PCV tubing is a trouble spot on these engines. (thanks Ford).

After you’ve checked for vacuum leaks, check the operation of the oxygen sensors. The easiest way to do that is to disconnect the sensor from the harness. Connect one lead of your digital voltmeter to the black wire on the sensor and the other lead to battery negative. Then start the engine and add fuel (either propane, starting fluid, or carb cleaner) into the throttle body to force the mixture to rich. You should see a corresponding increase in voltage as you add fuel (from 0 volts to slightly less than 1 volt). Start and stop the fuel enrichment and watch the meter to see if the volts drop as you stop adding fuel. If you see no change, the sensor is dead. Replace it.

You can also use the fuel enrichment procedure to locate intake gasket leaks.

GM climate control system fail

If you have a GM climate control system in your vehicle and the blower motor stays on HIGH and won’t shut off even when the car is off and the key out, chances are the blower motor control processor is toast or the HVAC control module is damaged. The processor is what lets you select and infinite range of blower speeds. In vehicles without climate control, you’ve only got three blower speeds and those are controlled by a blower motor relay. Sure, those blow out, but they’re only about $30 to replace.

If your climate controlled blower processor is shot, be prepared to spend mucho bucks for a replacement.

But before you start throwing expensive parts at the problem, you’ll have to do some checking. Start by testing the gray/black wire at the blower motor control processor. First, try grounding the wire. Then try removing it. If the blower stops with either of these steps, the problem is in the HVAC control module. However, if the blower continues to run at high speed with either of those tests, replace the blower motor control processor.

Just as an FYI, the retail price of the blower motor control processor is $280.34. There are a few places online that rebuild these puppies. Search for “HVAC rebuilder.” I know of some reputable PCM rebuilders, but don’t have any experience with HVAC rebuilders. So you’re taking your chances.

The four-passenger Converj extended-range electric vehicle (E-REV) has an aggressive, forward-leaning arc profile, and revolutionary electric propulsion technology called Voltec.

Voltec system is made up of a 16-kWh, T-shaped battery, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine-generator, which enables up to 40 miles of gas, and emissions-free electric driving with extended-range capability of hundreds of miles.

An all-glass roof incorporates solar panels that help offset power drain from the vehicle’s accessories. Other design cues include a full under-vehicle cover (belly pan), low-profile rearview cameras that replace conventional outside mirrors, and vertical headlamp and taillights elements, with light pipe technology.

New Fiat Qubo

An engine is a mechanical device that produces some form of output from a given input.

An engine whose purpose is to produce kinetic energy output from a fuel source is called a prime mover; alternatively, a motor is a device which produces kinetic energy from a preprocessed "fuel" (such as electricity, a flow of hydraulic fluid or compressed air). A motor car (automobile) has a starter motor and motors to drive pumps (fuel, power steering, etc) – but the power plant that propels the car is called an engine. The term 'motor' was originally used to distinguish the new internal combustion engine -powered vehicles from earlier vehicles powered by a steam engine (as in steam roller and motor roller).

Military engines included siege engines, large catapults, trebuchets and battering rams.

The design principles favoured in Europe, because of economic and other restraints such as smaller and twistier roads, leant toward smaller cars and corresponding design principles that concentrated on increasing the combustion efficiency of smaller engines. This produced more economical engines with earlier four-cylinder designs rated at 40 horsepower (30 kW) and six-cylinder designs rated as low as 80 horsepower (60 kW), compared with the large volume V-8 American engines with power ratings in the range from 250 to 350 hp (190 to 260 kW).

Earlier automobile engine development produced a much larger range of engines than is in common use today. Engines have ranged from 1 to 16 cylinder designs with corresponding differences in overall size, weight, piston displacement, and cylinder bores. Four cylinders and power ratings from 19 to 120 hp (14 to 90 kW) were followed in a majority of the models. Several three-cylinder, two-stroke-cycle models were built while most engines had straight or in-line cylinders. There were several V-type models and horizontally opposed two- and four-cylinder makes too. Overhead camshafts were frequently employed. The smaller engines were commonly air-cooled and located at the rear of the vehicle; compression ratios were relatively low. Mitsubishi Fuso Hybrid Trucks Review

Daimler AG launched Europe’s largest fleet test of hybrid trucks by presenting ten Fuso Canter Eco Hybrids to eight customers in London. The goals of the three-year test are to gain new insights into the use of 7.5-ton hybrid trucks by customers and to demonstrate the diesel-electric hybrid drive's high level of efficiency. The Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid could consume up to 15 percent less fuel than conventional diesel vehicles, and the hybrid truck’s CO2 emissions are therefore decreased correspondingly as well.

“We are delighted that we found eight such renowned customers for Europe’s largest customer test program,” says Ian Jones, Managing Director Commercial Vehicles at Mercedes-Benz UK. “London has had a very high traffic density and therefore high emissions for many years now. The Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid truck will let us show that transport services can be more environmentally friendly in urban traffic.”

The ten Fuso Canter Eco Hybrids were presented to the eight customers (Amey, DHL, Hill Hire, Ringway, Royal Mail, Scottish and Southern, Tesco, and TNT) in the heart of London. In selecting the partners for the test, Daimler made sure that the fleet test would cover a wide range of different customer requirements with regard to commercial vehicles. For example, while trucks used by logistics companies like DHL, Royal Mail, and TNT for package deliveries are often caught in stop-and-go traffic and frequently have to stop to unload cargo, trucks operated by the retail chain Tesco are used on regular runs between supermarkets and the central warehouse. The Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid will document its fuel-saving potential in both of these user scenarios.

"Mitsubishi Fuso offers the Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid in Japan since 2006, and hits the growing interest of costumers in Europe," says Alexander Müller, head of Sales and Marketing at Mitsubishi Fuso Europe. "However, for many customers the relatively high cost of a hybrid is an obstacle to actually purchasing one. Together with its partners, Daimler is investing in this pilot project in order to find out how economical the hybrid is for customers in comparison with conventional drive systems and to optimize product development with regard to customers requirements".

The vehicles used in Europe’s largest hybrid truck fleet test were manufactured by Daimlers subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) as a small batch and combine two different technologies: hybrid components, e.g. electric motor, and the Euro 4 powertrain of the series-produced 7.5-ton Fuso Canter. This combination is especially tailored to the needs of the European market, as it meets the EU emissions standard Euro 4.

Rider ergonomics are not so far forward as to be uncomfortable, but the Ninja's posture is certainly sporty.

Everything falls where you expect it to on the Ninja, and its compact size makes it welcoming to both newbies and more experienced riders—I’m 5’10”, and found that the only ergonomic limitation was seat comfort for long stretches, primarily because of the stiffness of the padding and the forward tilt of the saddle.
