French motor sport magazine Echappement has singled out the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R as the winner of its much-coveted Sportive de l’Année (Sports Model of the Year) award for 2014.

With seven vehicles picking up the accolade to date, Renault is the carmaker which has won the highest number of ‘Sports Model of the Year’ trophies since Echappement introduced the award in 1982.

The Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R was named ‘Sports Model of the Year 2014’ by a panel of Echappement journalists, drivers and readers. The purpose of the award is to highlight the car with the best sporting credentials.

Renault cars voted ‘Sports Model of the Year’ by Echappement:

– 1985: Renault 5 GT Turbo
– 1991: Clio 16S

The award is a source of pride for the entire company, as commented Patrice Ratti, Managing Director of Renault Sport Technologies: “All the employees of Renault Sport Technologies are extremely happy and proud to have won the ‘Sports Model of the Year 2014’ award. We feel all the more proud because the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R was chosen from among 10 prestigious sports models for both its performance and its radical spirit.”

It has notched up a series of records and lapped Germany’s celebrated Nürburgring in May 2014 in a time of 7m 54s. Just a few days ago, the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R – the sportiest Mégane ever produced – produced a lap at Suzuka, Japan, which rivalled that of the fastest GT models.
