Volvo FH wins trucks of the year

Volvo FH wins trucks of the year

A year, almost to the day, after its spectacular launch, the new Volvo FH was elected International Truck of the Year 2014 by leading commercial vehicle journalists, representing 25 magazines throughout Europe. The Truck of the Year award was received by Volvo Trucks’ President Claes Nilsson at a ceremony at the Comtrans exhibition in Moscow yesterday evening.

Summing up the jury vote, International Truck of the Year Chairman Gianenrico Griffini commented: “Volvo Trucks has delivered a completely new heavy-duty truck, which, with its innovative cab, hi-tech driveline components and advanced maintenance solutions, sets a new benchmark in the automotive industry.”

This is the third time the Volvo FH is elected International Truck of the Year. It also won the award in 1994 and 2000.

We are honoured and happy. When we introduced the new FH in September 2012, we claimed that it was pushing the envelope of what a premium truck could offer. The International Truck of the Year award confirms that the Volvo FH lives up to this promise,” says Claes Nilsson, President of Volvo Trucks.

The all-new Volvo FH is a truck built with the driver in mind and the focus on improving the haulage firm’s profitability. It boasts important innovations in all crucial areas: fuel economy, ergonomics, handling, active and passive safety, and time-saving features.

The truck is available with a range of 13- and 16-litre Euro 6 engines. The I-See technology can save up to five per cent fuel. I-See uses electronically recorded information about the topography of the roads to automatically optimise gear shifting, speed and auxiliary braking.

The handling is superior thanks to an improved chassis and the option to choose individual front suspension. The driving position is better and offers greater flexibility. For instance, the steering wheel now has a neck tilt function, a world-first in the truck world. The driver has a better view of the road, not least owing to the increase in the usable window area in the cab and the innovative rear-view mirror design.

More upright A-pillars add one cubic metre of interior space. This gives 300 litres of on-board extra storage capacity and greater on-board comfort.

Volvo Trucks offers maximum uptime with the new FH. This promise is based on new technology for remotely monitoring component wear and overall vehicle condition.

Nissan Patrol – Patrol Challenge – English re-direct

Nissan Patrol Challenge – English re-direct – Launched in 2012, ‘Nissan Patrol Challenge’ invited people from the Middle East region to dream up a challenge that really pushes the Patrol to its limit, to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan and see their idea come to life.

The Nissan Patrol Challenge reached its grand finale today with a new Guinness World Record set by the unstoppable Hero of All Terrain. In the presence of His Excellency Dr. Ghanem Alhajiri, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport, Nissan Patrol became the holder of the “heaviest object pulled by any production vehicle” Guinness World Record and notched up another historic milestone for illustrious heritage. The event, held at Sharjah International Airport, United Arab Emirates, saw an unmodified production Nissan Patrol haul a 170.9 ton cargo plane, inclusive of weight of the plane, fuel and the cargo for over 50 meters, smashing the previous record by 15 tons.

Because Nissan Middle East always aims at exceeding their customer’s expectations, the winning idea of ‘pulling a cargo plane’ was taken one step further to break a world record.

The record attempt was supported by Sharjah International Airport and held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman of Civil Aviation of Sharjah. In order to express its thanks for its invaluable support, Nissan shared this accolade with Sharjah International Airport.

His Excellency Dr. Ghanem Alhajiri, said: “Sharjah has an increasing role to play in international enterprise in the Middle East and Nissan’s selection of Sharjah International Airport as part of a Guinness World Record is further evidence of the growing business importance of the emirate. We congratulate Nissan on its achievement and look forward to its future innovative campaigns.”

Commenting on this iconic moment, Mr. Samir Cherfan, Managing Director, Nissan Middle-East said: “Today Nissan celebrates another landmark day in the Middle East with its second Guinness World Record in eight months. When we began this project we encouraged the people of the Middle East to dream up the next and ultimate challenge for the Hero of All Terrain, Nissan Patrol. The overwhelming response has been the inspiration for today’s historic events and we thank all who participated and His Excellency and the Sharjah International Airport for their priceless cooperation.

“The Guinness World Record for Nissan Patrol achieved here motivates us to ensure we deliver ‘Innovation that Excites’ in everything we do in the Middle East region.”

Nissan Patrol Challenge’ was launched in 2012 and invited the region’s people to share their great ideas of how they have dreamt of using this iconic vehicle online. Encouraging fans to design an innovative test for the Patrol and give themselves a chance of winning an once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan and other great prizes.

The result of this successful competition resulted in today’s Guinness World Record when Nissan Patrol comfortably dragged the Ilyushin Il-76 with a laden weight of 170.9 tons. In keeping with the indomitable Hero of All Terrain’s reputation, the Ilyushin Il-76 is known as one of the world’s toughest cargo planes, designed to be able to deliver cargo and take-off and land to some of the world’s most extreme environments.
