Bentley Driving Experience ‘Power on Ice’
Participants are trained by a select team of ice-driving experts headed by Kankkunen himself, then whisked off to a frozen lake in Finland, barely sixty kilometers from the Arctic Circle, where 560-horsepower Continental-series Bentleys await. A Finnish lake at -30 degrees is probably the surest way to put those new skills to the test, and don’t forget, the Bentley Continentals are all-wheel drive vehicles.
Since this is Bentley we’re talking about, the accommodations are also first-class. The three-day program is limited to small groups, and Bentley has constructed a “holiday village” in Ruka, Finland, for the purpose of this event. With a boutique hotel and a number of chalets, guests of the Power on Ice program will have access to gourmet food, snowmobile and dogsled trips, and food prepared by renowned Finnish chef Jarmi Pitkänen.

Toyota Camry Hyrid CNG
About Toyota Camry Hybrid
The Toyota Camry is a mid-size car, formerly a compact car manufactured by Toyota since 1980. The name “Camry” comes from a phonetic transcription of the Japanese word kamuri, which means “crown”, a tradition started with the Toyota Crown in the 1950s, and continued with the Corolla and Corona, which are also Latin words for “crown”.
For the East and Southeast Asian markets, high specification Camry models are seen as executive cars. Since the sixth generation SXV30 model, the Camrys sold in these markets have sported revised front- and rear-end treatment. For the seventh generation SXV40 series, the same was done, although the Australian-designed Toyota Aurion which is based on the seventh generation Camry was the donor model.
The Aurion features revised front- and rear-end treatment and changes to the interior, but is fitted with the same powertrains. An up-branded luxury version of the Camry was sold in Japan as the Toyota Windom until 2006; the related Lexus ES shares major chassis and drivetrain components with the Camry.

About car engines
An engine is a mechanical device that produces some form of output from a given input.
An engine whose purpose is to produce kinetic energy output from a fuel source is called a prime mover; alternatively, a motor is a device which produces kinetic energy from a preprocessed “fuel” (such as electricity, a flow of hydraulic fluid or compressed air).
A motor car (automobile) has a starter motor and motors to drive pumps (fuel, power steering, etc) – but the power plant that propels the car is called an engine. The term ‘motor’ was originally used to distinguish the new internal combustion engine -powered vehicles from earlier vehicles powered by a steam engine (as in steam roller and motor roller).

MINI John Cooper Works Clubman
— Auto review, photos and spot presentation
Building an enthusiast’s performance version of a stretched coupe that was designed to appeal to small families seems like a contradiction in terms, but that’s exactly what Mini did with the John Cooper Works Clubman, and after a week with the car, we think that, in many ways, this is the perfect Mini. Enough interior space for four adults, reasonable ride comfort, great gas mileage for a performance car, and more driving fun than any previous Mini. What more could you ask for?
The “John Cooper Works” trademark was recently sold to BMW by owner Mike Cooper, son of famous English race car builder John Cooper, and is now the label of the Mini inhouse tuning operation, producing performance accessories and the Mini equivalent of the BMW M-Series. After building a series of Mini coupes for the European Mini Challenge race series, as well as adapting the stretched Clubman version for use as safety cars for the series, the inhouse division has just introduced John Cooper Works costomer versions of the race and safety cars.
Factory production of these practical but track-ready cars starts by building a version of the turbocharged Mini engine that will produce 208 horses while still delivering fuel efficiency of 28 miles per gallon (using premium grade fuel) in combined driving. The click-slick Mini six-speed manual Getrag transmission is upgraded to handle the additional performance. To finish the package, the car is mounted on sport-tuned suspension with extra-quick steering response, equipped with 12.4 inch Brembo brakes. We drove the JCW version of the Clubman version of the Mini, but if you don’t ever have to carry life-size adults in the back seat, the JCW car be ordered in the shorter Cooper S version.

New Kia Soul without problems
— New concept
Kia’s parent company, Hyundai, admits it overstated the horsepower on certain Kia and Hyundai models. Oh, but don’t worry, the CEO said, people don’t buy these cars for their power anyway. that’s an understatement.
In fact, there are so many problems with Kias it’s hard to know where to start. Most cars have one or two problems that tend to be dominant — Ford’s 3.8l V-6 engine, to pick an infamous example. But with Kia, pretty much everything seems to go wrong.
See the new Kia Soul, seems to be perfect!

Ford Mustang: Problems and Solutions
The first common problem
Some 2005-2007 Mustang GT vehicles equipped with the 8.8 inch limited slip axle may exhibit a moan/groan noise when making tight low speed turns. This may be more noticeable when the axle is at full operating temperature. The noise may also be confused as originating from the brakes or steering system.
This is a documented problem and the dealer should replace the limited slip clutch pack. Since your dealer seems to be unaware of this, maybe you should get to a dealer that knows what he/she is doing!
Second common problem
Early build 2005 Mustangs had a problem with premature fuel pump shut off. The tank was redesigned. The condition may be due to the fuel tank vapor venting system inside the fuel tank.
If you are having this problem with 2006 – 2007 Mustangs, Ford claims that it is the pump that is at fault. Ford believes that some pumps deliver fuel at too fast a rate. Ford suggests that you try a different pump. Ford reminds that any modifications or alterations to the vehicle are not covered by warranty and are not recommended.
This info is from the two TSBs that are related to the Fuel fill problem. However, the 2007 is suppose to be fine.

2009 New Nissan Cube Concept
— The future multimedia car
About Nissan Cube:
The multimedia car, the new Nissan Cube will be the next generation in multimedia cars!
Call it a case of being on time by running late. The Nissan Cube has been sold in Japan for the last 10 years, but is only now coming stateside as a 2009 model. Sales kick off in early ‘09; about seven years after Toyota introduced the equally boxy Scion xB. Happily for Nissan–and maybe for you, too–this funky, frugal subcompact looks like just the thing to help Americans cope with rapidly changing gas prices and other assorted economic miseries. A pure battery-power version is expected early next decade as part of Nissan’s new Green Program 2010. It was recently previewed by the Denki Cube concept (Denki means “electric” in Japanese).
I’m sure that Cube will contains GSP, car kits, vocal and in touch commands.
Like the xB, the 2009 Nissan Cube is a tall, square-cut, 4-door, five-passenger wagon based on a small mainstream front-wheel-drive hatchback (in this case Nissan’s March/Micra minicar, which has never been sold in the U.S.). The Cube, however, actually predates (and allegedly inspired) the Scion’s original Toyota bB parent. The Cube coming stateside is somewhat smaller than the newly enlarged 2008 xB. It’s basically the Japan-market Cube with trim and equipment alterations to suit North American driving conditions and buyer tastes.
In its early years, the Cube was a gotta-have ride for young Japanese fashionistas. Though no longer considered so trendy a decade on, it’s bound to seem like a way-cool novelty here in the States. But the 2009 Nissan Cube should appeal to anyone looking for good fuel thrift and a city-friendly package with surprising interior space. Thanks to its packing-crate styling, the Cube boasts more cargo room than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan, yet is nearly a foot shorter than Mazda’s petite two-seat MX-5 sports car.
The engine about my point of view should be more than 1.6 Hp because more electrical components needs power and multimedia needs strong hardware components.
The home-market Cube offers two-row accommodations for six via a front bench seat and steering-column shift lever, but the U.S. version will probably have two front bucket seats and seat five. In Japan, there’s also a seven-passenger version, called the Cube3 or “Cubic,” with an extra 6.9 inches of wheelbase making room for a small 3rd-row seat and even more maximum load space. No word on whether that model is coming here too, but we won’t be surprised if it does. In fact, it might be the only one we get, as the wheelbase for the Denki Cube concept was stretched 9.4 inches from the regular model’s, though that was partly to accommodate the bulky batteries of its all-electric drive.
However long it is, the U.S.-market 2009 Nissan Cube will carry a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine instead of the 1.4-liter unit used overseas. The 1.8 delivers 122 horsepower, the same as it does in Nissan’s subcompact Versa. Transmission choice will likely be limited to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
Unfortunately the price is unknown.

Best VW and Audi Advice
— VW and Audi Advice
As people we spend a huge amount of time and money on keeping ourselves looking and feeling good.
Well your VW and Audi need the same kind of care and attention if they are going to keep looking as good as the day you purchased it.
These cars are designed to offer long and reliable service to their owners, German engineering has had a long and well earned reputation for producing quality cars, non more so than VW and Audi.
To keep your pride and joy in top working order please remember a saying my father taught me “prevention is better than cure”. We at Dave lees would prefer you to pay less in the long run for regular servicing rather than have to go through an engine rebuild for example, just because the vehicle has been run into the ground.
This care and attention will also be reflected in the price you are offered for your car when you eventually come to sell it .
The following pages contain some information so you can educate yourself in the basic rules of VW or Audi preventative maintenance.
Winter Advice
— VW and Audi Winter Driving
Air Conditioning – A marginally operating system will fail in hot weather. Have the system examined by one of our qualified technicians.
Cooling System – The greatest cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. (A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water is usually recommended.) DIYer’s, Never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses should be checked by a professional.
Oil – Change your oil and oil filter as specified in your manual or more often (every 5,000 miles) especially if you make frequent short journeys.
Engine Performance – Replace other filters (air, fuel, etc.) as recommended-more often in dusty conditions.
Windscreen Wipers – A dirty windscreen causes eye fatigue and can pose a safety hazard. Replace worn blades and get plenty of windscreen washer solvent.
Lights – Inspect all lights and bulbs; replace burned out bulbs; periodically clean dirt and insects from all lenses. To prevent scratching, never use a dry rag.
Tires – Have your tires rotated about every 5,000 miles. Check tire pressures once a month; let the tires “cool down” first. Don’t forget your spare, and be sure the jack is in good condition. Examine tires for tread life, uneven wearing, and cupping; check the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. A wheel alignment is warranted if there’s uneven tread wear or if your vehicle pulls to one side.
Brakes – Brakes should be inspected as recommended in your manual, or sooner if you notice pulsations, grabbing, noises, or longer stopping distance. Even minor brake problems should be corrected promptly.
Battery – Batteries can fail any time of year. The only accurate way to detect a weak battery is with professional equipment. Routine care: Scrape away corrosion from posts and cable connections; clean all surfaces; re-tighten all connections. If battery caps are removable, check the fluid level monthly. Avoid contact with corrosive deposits and battery acid. Wear eye protection and rubber gloves.
Emergencies – Carry some basic tools-ask our technician for suggestions. Also include a first aid kit and a torch. Consider buying a mobile phone.

Mazda3 5-doors spyshots
— New Mazda 3 concept spyshots available in tests
The 2008 Mazda 3 is aging gracefully; its sharp, sporty looks are still popular among buyers, and the hatchback is especially utilitarian.
If you’re interested in the Mazda 3, 2008 versions are available in two body styles: a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback that looks more like a wagon. Introduced in 2004 by Mazda, 2008 Mazda 3s are “distinguished by taut, chiseled styling that hint at the car’s athletic personality,” writes Edmunds. They add, “A sign of a great design is typically one that doesn’t require a sizable midlife refresh…only miniscule changes have been made to the 3 over the years.” Various reviews read by TheCarConnection.com heap praise on the styling of the Mazda 3; 2008 models “have enough style to sit beside an Audi A3 and look right at home,” says Kelley Blue Book. They note, “A new front end features a revised grille and headlamp treatment with a large rectangular air intake.” Depending on the trim offered by Mazda, 2008 3s are equipped with either 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels.

2008 Lexus RX350 / RX450h
Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. First introduced in the United States, where Lexus has become the highest-selling make of luxury cars, today Lexus brand name vehicles are available throughout the world. In 2005, the Lexus marque launched in Japan, marking the continued global expansion of the luxury division.
Lexus originated from a clandestine flagship sedan project which began in 1983. This effort developed into the original Lexus LS, which was the first vehicle to wear the Lexus marque upon its launch in 1989. In following years, Lexus added sedan, coupe, and SUV models. Hybrid drivetrains arrived in 2005, and the F-marque performance division debuted in 2007. From the start of production, Lexus vehicles have been consistently produced in Japan, with manufacturing centered in the Chūbu and Kyūshū regions. Assembly of the first Lexus built outside the country, the Ontario, Canada-produced RX, began in 2003.
Since 1989, Lexus has developed a reputation for vehicle reliability and customer service,[8] as measured by independent surveys. In 2008, consumer ratings firm J.D. Power and Associates named Lexus the most reliable brand in the U.S. for the fourteenth year based on its Vehicle Dependability Survey, a measure of over 53,000 vehicle owners and problems experienced in the first three years of vehicle ownership. Through 2008, Consumer Reports has also named Lexus among the top five most reliable brands in its Annual Car Reliability Surveys of over one million vehicles across the U.S.
The Lexus slogan is The Pursuit of Perfection

New 2008 BMW 7-Series with facelift
At least that’s the conclusion most auto writers must make, since they were all so hot to damn the 2008 BMW 745i. So that you stay with us here, this is a car that has been completely redesigned and, most auto scribes said, was made to look less handsome than the last 7 series.
Based on all the flack the car drew for its unconventional hind end and its iDrive system made by Microsoft, you’d have thought that BMW had done something sacrilegious and reduced the horsepower screaming out of its V-8, or made the car handle less nimbly, steer more sloppily or accelerate more sluggishly.
Nope. None of that happened.
Said car writers were so busy slaying the styling and damning the computerized controls that they didn’t bother to tell you what you might actually want to know — that this car is better in every non-esthetically weighted category.
It’s faster, has more interior room and corners like a much lighter, smaller car. It changes gears like a manual even though it isn’t, and it stops so quickly your molars hurt from the g forces trying to pull them out of your mouth.
And guess what? Despite the unkind adjectives slung at the new $68,495 BMW 745i, the car is selling like Molson at an NHL game, surpassing Mercedes-Benz S-Class sales in its first quarter on the market.
We’re not surprised. See, we actually drove the car and will be happy to explain how it drives. And yes, we’ll weigh in on esthetics and iDrive as well — the latter uses a center console-mounted mouse and dash-mounted LED screen to activate more than 700 (!) onboard functions. And, darn it, after reading every auto writer whine about how they couldn’t figure out the radio controls, we can now a) tell the Luddites to put a sock in it, and b) see if there was more to this car than an oddly designed boot lid. Would we get away with our smugness? Keep clicking–we know you can use a mouse, and so does BMW.

Toyota Auris Optimal Drive
Toyota car review
Five-door versions of Auris, around two-thirds of all production, are built at Toyota Manufacturing UK’s factory at Burnaston, Derbyshire, alongside the Avensis range.
Three-door variants are built at the Toyota Manufacturing plant in Turkey, which also builds the Verso models.
In theory the Auris, (pronounced ow-ris), the replacement model for the Toyota Corolla which was the world’s best selling car, ticks all the right boxes for the politically correct.
In Government speak it meets the targets for users and environmentally friendly motoring, it creates jobs for Britain, it is fuel efficient, Euro NCAP five star safe and it will not offend anyone or make anyone envious.
Put even more plainly it does the job efficiently. But in reality, whilst it is well made, drives pretty well and is a sound package overall, it is not very inspiring.
It is likely that pride of ownership just isn’t there with this product for a great deal of customers. Some motorists are still independent thinkers and like to be independent rather than having a ‘buy a politically correct car’ policy thrust at them via the taxation channels.
Those who loved the Corolla will love the Auris. Being a Toyota you just know it will go on forever, totally reliable and a functional three or five-door hatchback with two petrol and three diesel engine options.

Infiniti G37 Cabriolet
Premium Nissan tuning arm Infiniti has lifted the lid on its G37. This is the first exclusive image released by the Japanese brand and the luxury sports car looks to have lost none of the sensational styling premiered on its hard-top sibling.
The cabrio promises to be even more refined than the hard-top with the option of a unique interior treatment, plus audio and air conditioning systems have been tuned to operate perfectly with the top up or down.
Don’t expect a drop in performance either, the G37 will be fully deserving of the G badge, with power coming from the same 3.7-litre V6 unit that is set to go in the forthcoming 370Z and is in the current G37 Coupe.
The G37 has opted for a folding three-piece hard-top cover as well instead of the more traditional canvas roof and it will automatically retract at the touch of a button. This means expect similar looks and performance to the Coupe with the roof up.
For the full details on Infiniti’s stunning new cabrio don’t miss next weeks issue of Auto Express on sale next Wednesday 27 August.
Meanwhile, Infiniti Europe has launched the first stage of its internet based car visualiser allowing potential customers to get a virtual preview of every model in the European range.

2008 New Volvo S80 limited edition
The Volvo S80 is a high-end executive car produced by the Swedish automaker Volvo and was introduced in 1998 as a replacement for the rear-wheel drive Volvo 960/S90 sedan. Every single Volvo S80 has been built at the Torslanda Plant (Torslandaverken) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Unlike almost all other Volvo models, it did not have a station wagon version for its first generation. Now, the third generation V70 wagon is marketed as the estate version for the second generation S80 sedan. All of this is a part of a major product overhaul at Volvo, including a most luxurious large estate and sedan.
Upon its debut it was notable for being one of the first Volvos to depart from the company’s traditionally boxy, conservative styling. The S80’s styling, with its pronounced beltlines and tail lights that narrow and go from curves to points as they go up, has been adopted throughout the Volvo line, especially on the S60 and S40 sedans.

The best tuned BMW retro prototype
It was thirty years ago that BMW first introduced the BMW M1 super car to the world.
Now, to celebrate it’s thirty year anniversary, BMW thought it would be fun to tease us all with this updated “concept” version of the original Bavarian bombshell.
Originally designed by Paul Bracq and later by famed Italian design house Giugiaro, this BMW M1 Hommage takes a clearly aggressive pose, with retro features mixing it up with very modern elements.
From the louvered rear window, to the 80’s style badging on the rear and the conspicuous (for Germans) wheel design, the 80’s are definitely in at BMW’s studios and this latest version if the M1 just might raise enough eyebrows to go into production before the 80s are officially passe.

Weber Faster One – Fastest prototype car
About this car
Like the Millennium Falcon, the Weber Sportcars faster one may not look like much, but it sounds like it might be capable of besting the former’s Kessel Run time of under 12 parsecs. Hell, after looking over the manufacturer’s stats, we think that the faster one might be able to tear a gaping hole in the space/time continuum.
Billed by its Swiss maker as the world’s fastest street legal sports car, the faster one’s ugly-but-aerodynamic carbon fiber body covers a vehicle that weighs in at a scant 1,984 pounds (900 kg). That mass is distributed 50:50 and is propelled by a 900-horsepower/774 lb-ft twin-supercharged V8 that begins its life as a garden-variety General Motors LS7 before Weber tears it apart and rebuilds it to its own specifications. The twin-blown eight is then mated to an in-house-developed 6-speed sequential gearbox. Power is directed to an intelligent AWD system (also developed in-house) that can send a maximum of 36% of power to the front wheels.
Stated performance numbers are of the astonishing variety: 0-62 mph in 2.7 seconds; 0-124 in 6.6 seconds; 0-186 in 16.2 seconds; and a top speed said to be over 248 mph. Helping rein in the insanity is a set of 12-piston, 15-inch ceramic brakes supplemented by the car’s motorized rear wing, which, like the Bugatti Veyron’s, doubles as an air brake when necessary. You can get into all the minutiae after the jump where we’ve pasted Weber Sportcars’ full press release. Weird but wicked, the Weber Sportcars faster one is just the thing to settle that pissing contest you’ve been having with your Veyron-driving billionaire neighbor. If you give the nice people at Weber (at least) 1.6 million Swiss francs (plus VAT), they’ll build one just for you.

2008 Porsche Cayenne SUV
— Car review
Porsche raised the public’s collective eyebrow when it decided to enter the sport-utility vehicle business in 2003 with its bulbous Cayenne. However, in spite of its rather ungainly styling, this midsize luxury SUV has proven itself worthy of the vaunted Porsche name.
With a lineup that stretches from the low $40Ks to six-digit territory and engines that range from a modest V6 to a 520-horsepower twin-turbo V8, the Porsche Cayenne isn’t your typical midsize SUV. Nor is it the most practical or family-friendly. Indeed, the Cayenne’s relatively small cargo area, high load floor and lack of a third-row seat option limit its real-world functionality.
But in terms of spirited driving, there are few better. Thanks to its stellar, dual-range all-wheel-drive system, razor-sharp steering and superb brakes, the Porsche Cayenne demonstrates surprising dexterity both on-road and off. Several engines are offered, and we recommend springing for one of the V8 models, as they are the only ones truly up to the task of getting the heavy Cayenne moving with the alacrity befitting of a Porsche.
To many Porsche purists, even the concept of a Porsche luxury SUV, especially one that was co-developed with Volkswagen, is pure blasphemy. But in truth, the Cayenne makes tremendous sense: Not only does the high-priced, high-profit-margin Cayenne give a healthy boost to Porsche’s bottom line, it also gives customers desiring the lifestyle benefits and image projection of a sport-utility vehicle an option that delivers a healthy dose of performance as well. The undeniable cachet of the Porsche name doesn’t hurt, either.
The Porsche Cayenne was introduced in 2003 and remains in its first generation. It comes in one size with just two rows of seats for a maximum head count of five passengers. Though its styling attempts to translate the design vocabulary that works so well on Porsche’s small, lightweight sports cars, there’s no hiding the truck’s formidable mass.
The Cayenne is available in four styles, each with its own engine. The base Cayenne is the most economical but also the weakest, its 3.2-liter V6 producing only 247 horsepower. Its standard equipment list offers little more than the luxury SUV staples, but interestingly, it’s the only Cayenne available with a manual transmission. All others feature a standard six-speed automatic with steering-wheel-mounted manual shift controls.
Brisker acceleration is available in the Cayenne S, which has a 340-hp V8 as well as more standard features. From there, you can step up to the quick and lavishly equipped Cayenne Turbo, which provides a 450-hp turbocharged V8, albeit at twice the price of the base Cayenne. A special Turbo Power Kit is offered as an option to boost output to 500 hp. The range-topping Cayenne Turbo S, introduced in 2006, produces a monstrous 520 horsepower and is said to reach 60 mph as quickly as Porsche’s legendary 911.
A sophisticated, proactive all-wheel-drive system is standard on all Porsche Cayennes, and provides both high- and low-range gearing. Off-pavement capability is greatly enhanced by the optional off-road package, which adds a locking rear differential, hydraulically disconnecting stabilizer bars and skid plates.
Inside, the driver sits high above traffic in comfortable bucket seats and faces a three-spoke steering wheel and a center-mounted tachometer that pays homage to Porsche’s sports cars. The ignition is even mounted on the left side of the dash. Materials quality is superb throughout the cabin; even the pricey Turbo models look and feel appropriately elegant.
In general, our editors have enjoyed the Cayenne’s driving characteristics while issuing mild criticisms for fussy ergonomics, weak acceleration with the V6, tight rear-seat legroom and limited cargo space. Additionally, in spite of its impressive list of off-road hardware, the Cayenne is not as capable a rock-crawler as many of its competitors. Most of the blame goes to its street-biased, low-profile tires.
Those shoppers interested in a used Porsche Cayenne will find that the company has made only minor changes since the 2003 debut. The most significant occurred in 2005 when Porsche introduced the V6’s manual transmission, the upgraded horsepower option for the Cayenne Turbo and a few additional options, such as a panoramic sunroof.
