Chrysler Group Second-Quarter 2012 Net Income Increased to $436 Million
Second-Quarter Modified Operating Profit Increased 49 Percent to $755 Million With Free Cash Flow of $866 Million!
– Chrysler Group LLC net income was $436 million in the second quarter, a 141 percent improvement over the Adjusted Net Income(a) of $181 million a year ago – Net revenue for the quarter was $16.8 billion, up 23 percent from $13.7 billion a year ago – Modified Operating Profit(b) grew to $755 million in the quarter, 49 percent higher than a year earlier
Chrysler Group LLC today reported its preliminary second-quarter financial results, including net income of $436 million, an $806 million improvement from the $370 million net loss in the same quarter last year, which had included a $551 million charge related to repayment of its government loans.
Excluding the charge, net income increased $255 million, or 141 percent, period over period, as the Company continues to achieve its business targets and improve sales across all brands.
“Our results reflect a tireless pursuit by the people of Chrysler Group to deliver the very best quality and value across our brands,” said Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
“Together, we are always striving to achieve more, to learn from the past and build upon our successes. Nowhere is our dedication more evident than in the all-new Dodge Dart, with up to 41 mpg highway and levels of customization not typically found in the compact car segment.”
Revenue for the quarter was $16.8 billion, up 23 percent from $13.7 billion in the second quarter of 2011, primarily driven by a 22 percent period-over-period increase in shipments. For the first six months, the Company recorded net income of $909 million on revenue of $33.2 billion.
The Company recorded a Modified Operating Profit of $755 million, or 4.5 percent of revenue, in the second quarter, up 49 percent from the $507 million reported in the prior year.
The increase was attributable to strong volume and pricing, partially offset by unfavorable mix as we increased sales of cars versus trucks and SUVs, enhanced vehicle content and increased research-and-development spending for new models. Modified Operating Profit for the first half of the year was $1.5 billion.

Audi has launched its first digital showroom in the heart of London, close to Picadilly Circus, and it’s just the beginning – as the company plans to open a further 20 virtual showrooms throughout the world, over the next three years.
The idea behind the new virtual showroom is to demonstrate the entire breadth of the Audi range, displaying any model variant in any colour and trim combination in full 1:1 scale on huge screens in the store.
It also gives Audi an outlet in places that are simply too restrictive to have a car dealership, in previously un-tapped cities around the world.

The Dodge brand reveals its recipe for the groundbreaking all-new 2013 Dodge Dart in a new 90-second commercial debuting Tuesday, July 10, during the Major League Baseball (MLB) 2012 All-Star Game broadcast on the Fox network.
– ‘How to Change Cars Forever’ 90-second spot debuts July 10 during Major League Baseball All-Star Game telecast on Fox network – Ad introduces ‘New Rules’ tagline – Brand continues to build momentum for Dodge Dart during summer months as vehicles arrive in showrooms across America – High-impact marketing launch begins in the fall
A full, multifaceted marketing campaign will launch in September and will include additional TV spots, print and digital advertising running in major media outlets. The 90-second “How to Change Cars Forever” spot will continue to air in high-profile television events throughout the remainder of the year. The commercial was created by the Portland, Ore.-based advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy and can be viewed here www.youtube.com/dodge.
“Adding a dose of fun, creative license and Dodge brand humor, ‘How to Change Cars Forever’ captures the meticulous process of starting with a simple idea and developing it into a revolutionary new car, including the angst and pressure of a blank page, trials and errors of the early stages, and molding, shaping and testing the Dodge Dart until it was right,” said Olivier Francois, Lead Executive for Marketing, Chrysler Group LLC. “We wanted to provide a peek inside what it takes to bring a new car to fruition.”
The spot features the Jay-Z and Kanye West track, “No Church in the Wild,” from their “Watch the Throne” album, and it includes cameo appearances by a couple of athletes who are champions in their respective sports.
“With the all-new Dodge Dart, we started with a clean slate and the single vision of bringing a world-class vehicle to market that offers features and benefits never before found in a compact car,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Dodge Brand. “Designed and engineered without compromise, the all-new Dart starts with a world-class architecture and DNA of Alfa Romeo combined with class-leading levels of safety, technology, roominess and customization. The end result isn’t just a new compact car, but a groundbreaking vehicle that deserves an equally impactful marketing campaign.”
Dodge is using high viewership programs and pop culture summer events to build momentum and interest in the Dart among key consumer groups, including young professionals who may be purchasing their first car and “boomers” who may be re-entering the compact car market looking for mid-size interior roominess with the affordability and price position of a compact car.

Grand Cherokee “Moose Test” Invalid; Vehicle Overloaded
Chrysler Group engineers are investigating a Swedish magazine’s evaluation of the 2012 Grand Cherokee. During the evaluation, the publication was able to capture images of a Grand Cherokee on two wheels as it performed an extreme maneuver in an overloaded condition.
Advised of this event by the magazine, Chrysler Group engineers made numerous attempts to reproduce the wheel-lift in a properly loaded vehicle. Extensive testing produced no such result.
A subsequent evaluation was conducted by the magazine July 8 in Sweden and witnessed by Chrysler Group engineers. Three vehicles performed 11 runs on a course prepared by the magazine. None reproduced the original event.
The uncharacteristic result was obtained using a vehicle loaded beyond its weight specifications. The Grand Cherokee’s weight limitations are clearly stated on the vehicle and in the owner’s manual.
Also, the extreme maneuver performed by the magazine is not certified by any regulatory agency, nor is it used to establish any sanctioned safety ratings.
Chrysler Group takes seriously any safety concerns and engineers are examining the event to better understand the magazine’s claims.
A “Top Safety Pick” of the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2012 Grand Cherokee is an award-winning SUV that features Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Roll Mitigation as standard equipment. It meets or exceeds all government safety mandates and its outstanding performance has made it the most awarded SUV in history.

2012 New York Motor Show Jaguar announced that they would be putting the F-TYPE sports car into production
At the 2012 New York Motor Show Jaguar announced that they would be putting the F-TYPE sports car into production, following the popularity of the C-X16 concept.
The Jaguar F-TYPE is the first two-seater sports car to be launched by Jaguar for over 50 years, since its predecessor, the iconic E-TYPE.
The car is still in testing and the films feature prototype vehicles which will be camouflage-wrapped in different ‘F’ denoted livery for each video until its official unveiling.
The first video, ##Q##Future##Q##, explores how F-TYPE is the symbol of Jaguar##Q##s future; with Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar##Q##s Global Brand Director describing his vision for the car.
They have also just released ##Q##Fearless##Q##, in which Jaguar##Q##s Design Director, Ian Callum, explores the design, performance and agility of the F-TYPE.
Announced at the New York Motor show, and over fifty years since the launch of its predecessor, the iconic E-TYPE; the stunning two-seater F-TYPE sports car will be the newest addition to Jaguar’s model range.
Utilising Jaguar##Q##s industry-leading knowledge of all-aluminium construction, the F-TYPE will launch as a convertible, and a strict two-seater with the focus uncompromisingly on delivering driver reward. A range of supercharged petrol engines will be available (V6 and V8) – and all will deliver stunning sports car performance.
Currently undergoing development prior to going on sale mid-2013, the F-TYPE is being thoroughly tested ahead of its launch; taking on the most challenging roads, extremes of temperature and the harshest environments.
The core appeal of Jaguar##Q##s cars is their sporting heart, and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-TYPE.
Its development is a vivid representation of the confidence and ambition of the Jaguar brand, and the desire amongst the engineers and design team to produce a world-leader in a market segment that we have been absent from for too long. Ian Callum, Jaguar##Q##s Director of Design, said: “A true sports car needs to be pure in both its purpose and its form; to have the opportunity to produce such a car for Jaguar has been a privilege both for myself and for my team. The C-type, D-type and E-type Jaguars were all sports cars that held true to this principle in their era, and the F-TYPE will hold true to that same principle in its time, a time that is soon to arrive.“
The F-TYPE will join Jaguar##Q##s existing range of cars – the XF saloon and Sportbrake, XJ saloon and XK coupe/convertible. Full F-TYPE technical and range details will be announced later in 2012. It will go on sale in mid 2013.

Audi today announced it sold more vehicles in June 2012 than in any month since entering the U.S. market 42 years ago.
The new all-time monthly U.S. sales record of 12,664 vehicles sold in June beat the prior record of 12,655 vehicles sold in December 2011. June 2012 sales increased 26% over June 2011. Audi luxury SUV performance was led by an increase in sales of the Audi Q5, with a 60.7% jump in June, and a 21.6% year-to-date gain. The Audi A3 also performed favorably with an increase of 45.5% for the month.

Pininfarina was born at Turin. After joining his father Battista Farina at Carrozzeria Pininfarina, he quickly became integral to the company, and during his career oversaw many of the designs (particularly Ferraris) for which the company is famous.
In 1961 his family surname was changed from Farina to Pininfarina, to match that of the company, by decree of the Italian president.
Sergio Pininfarina, president of Pininfarina from 1966, has died at his home in Turin.
Sergio was responsible for overseeing such cars as the Ferrari 288 GTO, F40 and Enzo – as well as many of the things that made Pininfarina successful.
Son of the company founder Batista Farina, Sergio was born in Turin in 1926, he studied mechanical engineering at university and rose to become General Manager of Pininfarina in 1960.
Sergio then became President of Pininfarina in 1966 following the death of his Father.
Pininfarina is responsible for many great designs in the second half of the last century, not only producing supercar designs, but also injecting Italian style and flair into the volume car market – styling many of the successful Alfa Romeo, Peugeot and Lancias.
Other achievements of Sergio##Q##s include the key developments at Pininfarina, such as the new factory at Grugliasco, the opening of a computer design centre and wind tunnel.

The Fiat 500 is a car produced by the Fiat company of Italy between 1957 and 1975, with limited production of the Fiat 500 K estate continuing until 1977. The car was designed by Dante Giacosa.
Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957, it was a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 3 metres (~10 feet) long, and originally powered by an appropriately-sized 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term “small car” and is considered one of the first city cars.
In 1995 British shoegazing band Lush recorded a tribute song to Fiat 500. The song, aptly named “500”, was released on the group##Q##s final album Lovelife in 1996. A remixed version of the song, renamed “500 (Shake Baby Shake)”, was released as the group##Q##s final single later that year, reaching #21 in the UK singles chart.

The Audi A4 family has been the best-selling product line for Audi for the past four decades, and Audi is renewing and building on each one of the nameplate’s strengths in the new, eighth generation of A4.
Design refinements give the A4 model-line a new, athletic elegance, while Audi connect™ brings the Internet to the luxury sedan segment.
The Audi A4 Sedan and S4 epitomize the heart of the Audi brand through their exceptional design, performance and technology.
Performance
The groundbreaking turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, TFSI® engine in the Audi A4 provides 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
First introduced in 2008 as the fastest, most fuel efficient engine versus its six-cylinder competitors, the A4 quattro® is available with a fuel efficient eight-speed automatic Tiptronic® and a six-speed manual transmission.
The front-wheel drive configuration is available with a continuously variable transmission. The S4 is offered with the award-winning Supercharged 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, DOHC engine that generates an exhilarating 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. To ensure exceptional grip and performance, the S4 has quattro all-wheel drive standard.
An available rear sport differential uses torque vectoring to propel the S4 through turns and offers even more grip and cornering ability for the driving enthusiast as well as in the event of an accident avoidance situation.
The torque split of the quattro system for both models is 40 percent front/60 percent rear with a maximum load of 65 percent for the front and 85 percent for the rear axle.
A new electromechanical steering column fitted to both models removes weight from the front of the car versus the previous hydraulic steering system. Dynamic steering also is available to adjust steering input based on the speed of the vehicle.
Available Audi drive select allows the driver to adjust dynamic steering, throttle response, transmission shift points and suspension settings. Four settings are available: Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Individual to allow the driver to adjust each setting individually.
Exterior
Changes to the exterior design include a robust new grille with angled upper corners, dynamic new hood lines, and reconfigured bumpers with angular air inlets. Redesigned, sleek headlamps and new LED daytime running light design give the A4 a more dynamic look.
The unmistakable LEDs that have become a design hallmark of the brand require less power and emit less heat than conventional halogen lights.
Other enhancements to the exterior of the Audi A4 for the 2013 model year include the addition of optional static halogen cornering lamps to make the car’s segment-leading adaptive front lighting system even more illuminating for the driver, rectangular fog lights, and redesigned optional LED taillights. New wheel designs are available as well (ranging in size from 17 to 19 inches).
The S4 maintains its exterior differentiation from the A4 through its alu-optic side mirror housings, unique grill, splitter, diffuser and exhaust design.
Exterior dimensions were changed only slightly for the 2013 model year, harmonizing the designs of the A4 family to bespeak their design leadership in a highly competitive segment of the premium market.
Interior
Audi has refined the interior of the A4 models for the 2013 model year as well, improving upon the form, feel and function inside the class-leading lineup. There’s a new optional three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom on the S4. Designers have added a new high-gloss piano black finish paired with stainless steel mesh inlays and refined the look with additional new inlays made of Beaufort Oak. Fine Nappa leather also has been added as part of the available offering.
The S4 offers an exclusive S Sport seat with exceptional side bolsters for more performance-oriented drivers while contrast stitching and inserts available in silver, red and brown as well as Alcantara® provide a premium sporting look.
Functionally, improvements inside the Audi A4 model line include a streamlining of the Audi MMI® Navigation system and controls around just four buttons instead of eight, making the driver’s mastery of the journey much easier. Alu-optic accents have been added to window and trunk controls for better visibility. Audi designers also simplified the operation of the three-zone climate control system.
Driver assistance
The 2013 Audi A4 product line incorporates many features that are designed to assist drivers in navigating the road and traffic while making their driving experience more enjoyable.
Audi parking system plus includes a rearview camera with an acoustic warning system that helps drivers park with confidence. The rearview camera is unique in that it adjusts the track the vehicle will take on the Audi MMI screen based on steering input.
New to the A4 and the S4 is adaptive cruise control that helps regulate the distance to the vehicle ahead while attaining a maximum speed set by the driver. Audi side assist not only monitors the side of the car but also provides a warning for traffic approaching from behind.
Audi connect
Audi is the first company worldwide to feature factory-installed wireless Internet in its vehicles, enabling the innovative infotainment system known as Audi connect as part of MMI Navigation plus. Audi is the only luxury brand in the segment to feature such integrated connectivity.
With Audi connect, the onboard MMI Navigation system is enhanced with Google Earth™ maps for a true aerial view of the route and surrounding area. Audi connect also features real-time local weather, fuel prices, news, and travel information, as well as Google Search via voice command.
The 2013 Audi A4 and S4 feature the most advanced MMI Navigation plus system, with a seven-inch LCD monitor that displays navigation, audio, telephone and vehicle settings with exceptional clarity. Two SD memory card slots can be used to listen to music files or to transfer music tracks onto the 40GB hard drive.
A single slot in-dash CD/DVD drive also can be used to listen to CDs or view a DVD while at a standstill. A 14-speaker, 505-watt Bang & Olufsen® Sound System is available and delivers an exceptional audio listening experience.
The 2013 A4 and S4 combine exceptional design, efficiency, performance and technology to continue to attract customers to the Audi brand for years to come.

The new Audi SQ5 TDI: Twin-turbo V6 diesel with 313 hp
The SQ5 TDI is the brand’s first S model with a diesel engine Zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.1 seconds, average fuel consumption of just 7.2 liters per 100 km (32.67 US mpg)
In conjunction with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Audi is presenting the new top model of its recently revised Q5 model series – the Audi SQ5 TDI*.
Boosted by two turbochargers, its 3.0 TDI produces a brawny 230 kW (313 hp) and 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) of torque between 1,450 and 2,800 rpm. The Audi SQ5 TDI will roll into dealerships in the first quarter of 2013 and is the first S model in the history of Audi with a diesel engine.
The powerful TDI, which displaces 2,967 cc, uses a twin-turbo design in which the two turbochargers are connected in series via a flap. Cylinder head cooling, the timing and lift of the intake cam shafts, the pistons, their oil-jet cooling and the piston pins have been specially designed for the high-performance concept.
The common rail system develops as much as 2,000 bar of pressure and injects as many as eight shots of fuel into the cylinders per cycle. The 3.0 TDI biturbo has a great sound. This sound is further modulated by a sound actuator in the exhaust system – a loudspeaker in short side channel.
The Audi SQ5 TDI sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.1 seconds; top speed is 250 km/h (155.34 mph). Fuel consumption is on average just 7.2 liters per 100 km (32.67 US mpg). Innovative thermal management, the start-stop system and the regulated oil pump all contribute to this top figure.
A fast and smooth-shifting eight-speed tiptronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive with torque vectoring transfer the power of the brawny V6 diesel to the road.
The electromechanical power steering in the Audi SQ5 TDI is sensitive and highly efficient. The sport suspension lowers the vehicle body by 30 millimeters (1.18 in). The standard 20-inch wheels feature a five parallel-spoke design and are fitted with 255/45 tires.
Audi offers optional wheels measuring 21 inches in diameter. The black brake calipers on the front axle sport S badges. The optional Audi drive select system can be expanded upon request to include the dynamic steering system with its steplessly variable steering ratio.
The most eye-catching design cues are the platinum gray single-frame grille with its galvanized double bars in an aluminum-look finish, the roof spoiler and the modified bumpers. The high-gloss package and the aluminum-look exterior mirrors accentuate the area around the windows.
Audi offers the new top model in the crystal effect paint finishes Estoril Blue or Panther Black. The body includes a high proportion of ultra-high-strength steels, making it very light, safe and rigid.
As is typical for an S model, the interior has black trim and exudes a sporty elegance. The headlining is optionally available in lunar silver. The power-adjustable sport seats come standard in Pearl Nappa leather/Alcantara.
Leather upholstery in a choice of four colors is available as an option. Brushed aluminum inlays are standard. Options include Carbon Atlas, Piano finish and the new Aluminum/Beaufort wood black trim panels.
The instrument dials are gray and include a 3D-design S badge, the needles are white and the pedals and shift paddles have an aluminum-look finish. Additional visual highlights in the interior are the S gear lever knob, the S badges on the door sill trims, the start button and the specially-shaped steering wheel, the S welcome screen and the lighting package.
Luggage capacity is as much as 1,560 liters (55.09 cu ft), making the SQ5 TDI the ideal car for sporty and active customers. It is also an unusually powerful towing vehicle, with a rated towing capacity of up to 2.4 metric tons (5,291.09 lb).
The Audi SQ5 TDI will roll into dealerships the first quarter of 2013, with prices starting at €58,500. Customers can also choose to have it equipped with Audi’s state-of-the-art assistance and infotainment systems as well as Audi connect services.
