Future tyres to change colour when it##Q##s time to replace
Tyre wear indication technology hasn##Q##t come particularly far in the past thirty years, as most of us are still reduced to sticking a 20p piece into the tread to see if it##Q##s time we paid Kwik-Fit a visit.
But award-winning designers Gao Fenglin and Zhou Buyi have been busy working on a high-tech solution to the age-old problem of spotting worn out rubber.
The pair have created the Discolor Tyre, that features a layer of bright orange rubber that sits beneath the traditional black top layer.
When the tread is worn to a certain depth, the bright under layer will show through indicating a need to replace.
The bright colouring can also help drivers spot a tiny insidious tear or leak, and the designers estimate their tyre will get over 12,000 miles before the subdermal color begins to show through.
There have been plenty of patents submitted for advanced wear indicators but due to the expensive production process and the stringent safety rules; many are yet to see the light of day.

Chrysler Group Reports Full-year 2012 Net Income of $1.7 Billion
Chrysler Group Reports Full-year 2012 Net Income of $1.7 Billion
Chrysler Group LLC today reported preliminary net income of $1.7 billion for the full year 2012, up from net income of $183 million a year ago, exceeding the guidance provided earlier in the year.
Full-year 2011 Adjusted Net Income(a) was $734 million, after adjusting for the $551 million loss on extinguishment of debt recognized in the second quarter of 2011.
“While we are pleased to have achieved strong financial results in 2012, the enterprise we are crafting is not complete,” Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne said. “The goals we’ve set for the year ahead reflect a common desire by everyone from leadership to the shop floor to succeed and sustain the power of the house we are building. Our aim is meaningful, but it is not complicated, and only a preoccupation with quality can achieve it. We pause for a moment to enjoy our accomplishments, but we will not stop. Our continued achievement relies upon maintaining a humble spirit and an intense focus on the integrity of our work. And so we press on.”
For the fourth quarter, net income was $378 million on revenue of $17.2 billion, up 68 percent from $225 million a year earlier. For the year, the Company reported revenue of $65.8 billion, an increase of 20 percent from a year ago, primarily due to higher vehicle shipments.
Modified Operating Profit was $2.9 billion for the year, or 4.4 percent of revenue, up 47 percent from $2.0 billion reported in the prior year.
The increase resulted from continuing strong sales and pricing, partially offset by an increase in the proportion of sales from passenger cars, including the Dodge Dart and Fiat 500, versus trucks and SUVs; increased research-and-development costs for future models; and increased spending on advertising.
Modified Operating Profit for the quarter was $711 million, a 40 percent increase from the same period last year.
Modified EBITDA(c) was $5.5 billion for the year, or 8.3 percent of net revenue, an increase of 15 percent from the prior year. For the fourth quarter, Modified EBITDA was $1.3 billion.
Autoliv Inc. – the global leader in automotive safety systems – is proud to announce that its proprietary Night Vision system is the driving force behind the newly released BMW “Dynamic Light Spot” pedestrian illumination system. Since pedestrians are four times as likely to be killed or injured by a vehicle in the dark, this active safety feature was developed by Autoliv and BMW to improve the safety for vulnerable road users.
In 2008, Autoliv launched Pedestrian Detection, which uses sophisticated software to analyze the scene ahead and highlight pedestrians and cyclists via the on-board screen or head up display.
While headlights can provide good illumination, objects at distances beyond 40 yards are usually not seen by a driver at night. Studies have shown that the risk for fatal pedestrian accidents is almost four times greater at night than during the day*, and each year more than 40,000 pedestrians are killed at night. Night Vision can help reduce those numbers.
Dynamic Light Spot brings active safety into the vehicle##Q##s headlights. Many nighttime traffic collisions share a common cause – a driver##Q##s inability to recognize pedestrians or animals in the roadway due to poor visibility, many times leaving the driver with little time to react, often resulting in injuries or even death.
The Dynamic Light Spot addresses this concern by utilizing sensors and cameras designed by Autoliv to actively spotlight pedestrians on the side of the roadway. As a result, motorists will be able to identify potential hazards at a greater distance, leaving more time to navigate around them.
Autoliv’s infrared camera scans the road for pedestrians up to four times farther than the headlight range. To provide an extra margin of safety, the system will also analyze the scene content and vehicle dynamics to determine if the pedestrian is at risk of being hit by the vehicle.
Warnings are activated with enough time for the driver to react when a pedestrian moves into the vehicle’s path.
BMW has been incorporating Autoliv##Q##s Night Vision systems into their high-end vehicles for several years, now Dynamic Light Spot breaks new ground by also physically illuminating people near the roadway.
In the past, Night Vision systems provided black and white images of the road ahead on the navigation screen or head-up display with warnings of a potential hazard as detected. The BMW Dynamic Light Spot takes night vision to the next level — by allowing drivers to see pedestrians without taking their eyes off the road.
In 2013, Autoliv presents the world##Q##s first Night Vision system with Animal Detection to further promote safe night driving.
This third generation technology will not only identify pedestrians and animals, but will also alert the driver either audibly, through the image display or via the vehicle head up display.

Audi has a new mission for its S-series of performance cars: Instead of competing directly against high-enders like BMW##Q##s M-series, the S cars are aiming a bit lower.
So how well do the S6 and S7 fulfill their objectives? Not well, as it turns out — and that##Q##s a good thing.
For the second consecutive year, we##Q##re bellying up for a helping of Audi##Q##s alphanumeric soup.
To the “As” and “6s” and “7s” from the A6 3.0T and A7 models that made the list last year, we##Q##re happy to see a couple of hot “Ss” float to the top in 2013. For the S6 and S7, Audi takes the “A” models##Q## rich mix of virtues and turns it lethal, thanks in no small part to a 420-hp, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8.
Audi has had a car on this list for four of the last six years. Last year it was the mid-size A6, a beautiful luxury car with a high-tech engine that delivers great value-for-money.
This year it##Q##s the S6, hot-rod version of the same car, which packs a 420 horsepower twin-turbo V8 wallop and delivers a driving experience reminiscent of a first-year Best New Cars winner (and one of my all-time favorite cars), the Audi RS4.
In a recent comparison test, the S6 put the hurt on the vastly more powerful BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. On the road, the S6 is an inexhaustible cannon, more cohesive and less fiddly than cars costing an additional $20,000.
The A7 didn##Q##t make last year##Q##s list because I didn##Q##t think the driving experience delivered on the promises made by the fastback styling, but this year the S7 joins the S6 on the podium — it##Q##s just as potent and a bit better in the corners than the S6. And with prices starting just under $73k for the S6 and $80k for the S7, these Audis are a bargain compared to the competition.
Audi##Q##s modus operandi for the non-S varieties is basically the same, minus 110 horsepower. Understated bodies cover stout structures into which Audi crafts beautiful and sensible interiors, without unnecessary complication. Combine that with an unflappable chassis, accurate steering, ample power, and a general sense of quality and you have an unbeatable luxury/sports-car range.
any people will compare the A6 and A7 to the BMW M5, but that car is in a different class. The M5 is a proper beast, with a twin-turbo V8 that bests the S6 and S7 by 400ccs, 140 hp, and 94 lb-ft of torque, all of which is fed to half the number of wheels. Set in its most aggressive performance mode, the M5 is a real handful — it will allow you to hurt yourself in ways that the S6 and S7 won##Q##t. It also costs nearly twenty grand more than the S6.
Price The base price for the Audi S6 4.0 TFSI Prestige is $71,900, which is $39,365 more expensive than the average for all Sedan Cars.
Vehicle Type This 4-Door Sedan seats 5 passengers. Available with AWD / 4×4, the drivetrain in the 2013 S6 4.0 TFSI Prestige sends power to the wheels through a standard 7-speed Automatic (with manual mode) transmission.
Gas Mileage The Audi S6 4.0 TFSI Prestige achieves 17 MPG in the city, which is 15% lower than the average for all Sedan Cars, and 27 MPG on the highway, which is 6.9% lower than the average for all Sedan Cars.
Power & Torque The S6 4.0 TFSI Prestige has a peak horsepower output of 420 HP, which is 75% more than the average for all Sedan Cars. Maximum torque available is 406 ft-lbs, which is 63.7% more than the average for all Sedan Cars.
5 Must-Have Car Accessories You Should Have on Hand
Caring for your car properly and ensuring that you remain safe and sound while on the road will require that you take the right steps.
While most of these steps are nothing more than common sense, there are some specific car accessories that you need to ensure you have on hand at all times.
These will offer better safety while on the road, but can also help you protect your vehicle from the ravages of time and exposure to the elements.
Here are 5 must-have accessories you shouldn’t be without.
1. Car Care Kit
Having a good car care kit with the right items is vital. Your kit should contain several items – a quality car wash, high-quality wax and polish, wheel cleaner, a soft mitt or microfiber cloth for washing and a chamois for drying. You’ll find that such a kit will ensure that your car stays in good condition for years to come.
2. Tyre Pressure Gauge
No driver should be without a quality tyre pressure gauge. Having a reliable, accurate gauge on hand will ensure that you are always able to keep an eye on your tyre pressure and stay safe while on the road. While both analog and digital models can be purchased, digital gauges are more accurate and easier to use for most people.
Chances are good you keep your cell phone close while on the road. However, that communication device can be a threat to your safety if you’re dialing by hand. Invest in a good Bluetooth headset for hands-free communication while on the go and reduce your risk of being involved in an auto accident due to distracted driving.
4. Tyre Cover
Many people change their tyres in the summer and winter due to handling and safety requirements during each season. If you change your tyres, you’ll need to ensure that the set you remove stays safe and protected, even if you’ll be storing them in the garage. A good tyre cover will prevent dust from building up on your tyre’s surface, but can also help protect against other threats, such as dry rot. A good cover will also provide you with easy transportability – a built in handle at the top of the cover ensures that lugging your tyres into and out of storage isn’t a backbreaking challenge.
For most of us, storing our tyres after a seasonal change involves little more than finding a clear spot in the garage floor for them. However, that leads to wasted space – they’re just going to sit there and take up room that you could be using for something else. A tyre shelf mounts to your wall and allows you to store your tyres vertically (while covered) without taking up any unnecessary room.
These five simple car accessories will help ensure that you stay safe while on the road, but will also help you protect your tyres when they’re not in use.

The Honda Fit retains its spot as the resale value leader in the subcompact car class for a third straight year, and it##Q##s easy to see why.
With the Fit, Honda hands drivers a bargain-priced tool that is neither pretty nor powerful. In place of all that is something rarer: density of thought. There##Q##s more intelligence packed into the Fit than in many cars nearly twice its size. It##Q##s the defining small car—mechanically precise, pared of excess fat, respectful of gasoline, and graced with fluid handling.
The icing on the Fit##Q##s cake, though, is just how much fun this vehicle is to drive. The 2013 Honda Fit##Q##s 117-horsepower, 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine gives this little mover good motivation without compromising fuel economy.
Linked to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic, this powerplant provides zippy acceleration and fuel economy of up to 35 mpg. We are particularly smitten with the Fit Sport, which has paddle shifters for its automatic transmission and a “sport” mode for surprisingly lively response.
The 1.5-liter, 16-valve i-VTEC® engine gives the Fit a generous amount of horsepower in relation to its size and impressive fuel efficiency[1]. One-hundred six-pound-feet of torque at a low 4800 rpm means drivers can enjoy quick acceleration, creating a comfortable driving experience.
Steering Wheel-Mounted Paddle Shifters
All automatic transmission-equipped Fit Sport models feature sports car-inspired paddle shifters. Mounted to the steering wheel, the paddles provide more control by allowing the driver to shift the car manually.
Drive-by-Wire Throttle System
The Drive-by-Wire throttle system helps enhance the driving character of the Fit. With smart electronics connecting the throttle pedal to the throttle butterfly valve in the intake manifold, the engine response can be optimized to suit the driving conditions and to better match the driver##Q##s expectations
Price The base price for the Honda Fit is $15,325, which is $4,970 less expensive than the average for all Hatchback Cars.
Vehicle Type This 4-Door Hatchback seats 5 passengers. Available with FWD, the drivetrain in the 2013 Fit sends power to the wheels through a standard 5-speed Manual transmission.
Gas Mileage The Honda Fit achieves 27 MPG in the city, which is the average for all Hatchback Cars, and 33 MPG on the highway, which is 5.7% lower than the average for all Hatchback Cars.
Power & Torque The Fit has a peak horsepower output of 117 HP, which is 16.4% less than the average for all Hatchback Cars. Maximum torque available is 106 ft-lbs, which is 26.9% less than the average for all Hatchback Cars.

For the first time since 1997, when the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique shared, one car sold under two different marques has claimed a single 10Best award.
The 2013 Subaru BRZ is a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car that exists solely to engage its driver and deliver high-performance thrills on the streets and at the racetrack. That##Q##s the kind of simple mission statement we can get behind.
The differences between the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ are some exterior colors and trim, and the BRZ comes standard with a navigation unit, equating to a $1310 premium over the $24,955 FR-S.
Critics of the Scibaru are quick to point out its unrefined and buzzy shortcomings.
Tight steering, a well-sorted suspension and firm, capable brakes help the BRZ deliver ample dynamic fun, while a comparatively modest price tag makes that fun accessible to passionate drivers of common means The BRZ competes in the same rear-drive ring as the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang and Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but proves itself to be a formidable opponent with its lightweight body and high-strung attitude.
Driver hear the buzzing, and even a little interior rattling, as the backing track to a constant reminder that chassis development took the lead during this car##Q##s gestation.
A Subaru without all-wheel drive seems like sacrilege, but considering the kind of holy fun offered up by the 2013 BRZ we##Q##re willing to overlook its rear-drive sin. While it##Q##s a technical twin of the Scion FR-S, the BRZ adds a bit of luxury to the performance equation by offering a more upscale interior.
Electrically assisted steering that actually communicates and a chassis balance that ebbs and flows between understeer and oversteer with brake or throttle applications are hallmarks of its personality.
It is a lot like the Porsche Boxster in that regard, but for about half the cost. With only 200 horses and a 6400-rpm torque peak, there##Q##s no power cushion to adjust the mid-corner pace. The Subion challenges drivers to maintain speed and when apex velocity is maxed out, so is the driver-satisfaction gauge.
Entertainment, value, and execution of the intended purpose are the 10Best commandments: This one (okay, two) nails ##Q##em all.
Price The base price for the Subaru BRZ Premium is $25,495, which is $23,855 less expensive than the average for all Coupe Cars.
Vehicle Type This 2-Door Coupe seats 4 passengers. Available with RWD, the drivetrain in the 2013 BRZ Premium sends power to the wheels through a standard 6-speed Manual transmission.
Eye the all-new Subaru BRZ up and down and you might notice it bears a striking resemblance to the recently introduced Scion FR-S. The fact is, besides some minor details, the 2013 BRZ and FR-S are identical twins (we##Q##ll leave you to figure out which is the evil one). A long hood, abbreviated trunk, and a squat, planted stance all hint at the BRZ##Q##s sporting credentials. In person Subaru##Q##s coupe has a more charming presence than in pictures due to its small, athletic dimensions.
Gas Mileage The Subaru BRZ Premium achieves 22 MPG in the city, which is 29.4% higher than the average for all Coupe Cars, and 30 MPG on the highway, which is 15.4% higher than the average for all Coupe Cars.
Power & Torque The BRZ Premium has a peak horsepower output of 200 HP, which is 42.9% less than the average for all Coupe Cars.
Engine power is sent to the rear wheels via a standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission.
10 Rules of the Road You##Q##ve Probably Broken Today
Have you broken the law today? No? Are you 100% sure?
Motoring law is a tricky beast; things that you might consider to be a bit cheeky or just bad manners can easily turn out to be actual offences, with stiff penalties and nasty fines.
Of course, most of us know the basics: don##Q##t speed, don##Q##t drive drunk, but how many people know that enjoying a sarnie at the wheel can land you in hot water?
Here, PassSmart points out ten ways you may have broken the law today without even knowing it.
Beeping
Honking at the hunnies is not permitted. You are supposed to use your horn as a warning device to let other motorists know that you are there. If you use it as a way of attracting attention so that you can swear at people, then you are breaking the law.
Giving people ##Q##the finger##Q##
Even if an unfriendly lorry driver has just cut you up for the third time, it is still illegal to give him “the finger” or to roll down your window and throw half-open fast food mustard packets at his car. If you would not do it during your driving lessons, then do not do it when you drive.
All babies must be strapped into an approved baby seat without exception. Do not just hold the baby whilst you nip to the shops.
Not-really-speeding
There##Q##s no such thing as ##Q##legal##Q## speeding; Even 10% over is breaking the speed limit!
Morning after drink driving
You can still be over the limit when driving the morning after. Make sure you##Q##ve had enough rest and given your body enough time to break the alcohol down before getting behind the wheel.
Not cleaning your car
If your licence plate is not clearly visible then you are breaking the law. The same goes for your car lights. You must also make sure that all of your windows can easily be seen through.
Pulling over to answer the phone
You must do this in a safe and convenient place. Do not swerve onto the path or into a bus stop.
Rocking out
You are supposed to be concentrating on driving and not on your rocking tunes. It is up to you to make sure that your sound system is at a reasonable level and will not distract you or other drivers.
If you love to eat hot dogs whilst you drive, or balance a plate of sushi between your legs, remember it is illegal. People have been arrested for snacking on a sandwich, so beware of your munching when driving.
Warning other motorists about police speed traps
You may feel like a folk hero if you warn other motorists that a speed trap lays ahead, but you are going to find yourself in hot water if the police catch you doing it.

Importance of Motorsport Equipment Providing Stores
Anyone, who is into racing and motorcar, needs information on motorsport equipment. There are many equipment, which are needed for motorsport maintenance. A store that is worth going must have an ample number of motorsport equipment in their stock.
Motorcar owners need to be in contact with such stores, they at least should have an idea on this because the search for auto-parts is often tiresome and difficult to some extent.
Motorsport equipment providers are those, who help the motorcar owners. The solution they offer is quite effective for owners because they get some insights on what are the functionalities of motorsport equipment and how to use those equipment perfectly.
First thing that a motorcar owner should realize is that a new approach is needed when buying motorsport tools and even a search may be necessary for the owner to conduct. Online shopping has made it really easy to buy motorsport equipment these days.
A number of retail outlets are there and many of them have online presence, which indicates that customers have plenty of options. There can be two different scenarios that can cause motorcar owners to opt for buying motorsport equipment.
The first scenario is where the motorcar owner knows what is wrong with the car, aware about what is to be done and only looking for the right type of equipment. The second scenario is different. In the second scenario, the owner is having some problem with his car and he wants to know what’s causing the problem. In that case, he first needs expert’s advice. The expert is the one, who’ll suggest him the motorsport equipment he needs.
In normal cases, certain equipment come in use for motorsport remodeling and maintenance. Such equipment are brake, electrical components, helmets and accessories, fire extinguisher, race-wear, head and neck safety-wear etc. It’s essential for the car owner to have a good idea on how these equipment function and their specifications.
Braking for example, is an utterly important part of the car. Some equipment related to braking are brake bleeders, brake discs, brake fluid and brake tools and accessories etc.
The car may be fast enough, but slowing down on time is equally important and installation of efficient brakes accessories, make it sure. Fire extinguisher isn’t only handy for a motorcar, in many places, it is a requirement and if a motorcar doesn’t have requisite set of fire extinguishing equipment, the owner would be punished.
The accessories related to extinguishing fire are fire extinguisher activation, plumbing and nozzles etc. Helmet bag, amplifier and racing boot etc. As for the electrical components, batteries, cable, alternators, cable protection, dash warning lights and more equipment are there, which are essential for a car to have in order to ensure its safety.
The internet is perhaps the best place where all these equipment can be found. There are online stores, which are such that they have almost all kinds of motorsport equipment.
Online search can help the car owner to find such a store and then get their hands on a large collection of motorsport equipment and accessories.

Cadillac ATS, RAM 1500 Win Car and Truck of the Year Awards
The North American International Auto Show in Detroit feels like a hometown press show, and some in the automotive press are calling this year##Q##s North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards a win for Detroit.
The 2013 CadillacATS was named North American Car of the Year and the Ram 1500 was named North American Truck of the Year. The ATS was up against the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion, while the 1500 was competing with the Ford C-Max and Mazda CX-5.
“The double win was seen as a comeback victory of sorts for the ‘home team’ to some extent, as Chrysler and General Motors, both based in the Detroit area, suffered through bankruptcies and reorganizations in which the companies have been reborn,” writes The New York Times.
Forty-nine automotive journalists select the award winners. “The jurors chose the Ram as the truck/utility champ after its extensive update for 2013 that went well beyond a mere refresh of the truck,” writes USA Today. “It gained new convenience and work truck features, a new powertrain offering featuring the Pentastar V-6 and the first 8-speed automatic transmission in a full-size pickup, and weight-cutting and aerodynamic changes that increased mileage ratings.”
Fobes says, “Cadillac, owned by General Motors, has always been a brides maid at this event never taking home the top prize. But it has been a finalist several times. The luxury marque was a finalist for the top Car award in 2008 with its CTS, but took a back seat to the Chevrolet Malibu.” The ATS is all-new for model-year 2013, and is the smallest model in the Cadillac line.

The 1970 Fury, the Last Muscle Car | Muscle Cars I’ve Shipped – Bigness For Bigness Sake: The 1970 Plymouth Fury, the Penultimate Muscle Car
What would you say if I told that back in 1970 an American automaker designed and built a car tough enough to drive to the gates of hell, through and back?
A car that was flawless, a car capped with chrome and “vinyl” leather and seats big enough to get lost in? A car that was built for speed, for people who were greedy for it?
A car that was, in fact, thought to be the fastest domestic assembly line produced vehicle of its time; that was, nevertheless both literally square and thought to be so square that many cops drove a supposedly special “interceptor” version. A car that, despite its tendency toward excessive speeds, felt like it weighed so much it couldn’t help but exert its own gravitational pull?
A hunk of steel with a long series of dashboard lights that never flickered, with an automatic transmission you could use like a stick, with gears that seemed to sing something along the lines of “Smoke on the Water” as they pulsed and changed? Now, what if I told that car was the 1970 Plymouth Fury?
Yes, you read that correctly. I said it, and I’ll stand by it. Nothing else quite says ’70s muscle like the aircraft carrier-sized Fury body. The largest variant was almost 18 feet long with a wheelbase that measured a full ten feet and trunk that could hold 21.5 cubic feet worth of whatever the era’s road warriors could think of to stuff into it.
Even the smallest standard engine(a mighty 318 V-8) was virtually and asteroid, and the largest (a big-block Super Commando 440 V-8 with a 6-barrel carburetor good for 390 horses) was so large, it was occasionally mistaken for a small moon or by astute observers … for a space station. The Fury was truly, indisputably, the pinnacle of high-performance automotive engineering, with a suspension, driveline, brakes and tires ideally suited to its strangely luxurious whole.
No one really know why, just as their competitors were abandoning the type because the market for them was shrinking, Plymouth introduced a muscle car as deliriously full-sized as the Fury. But they did and they were strangely proud of having done so.
No not “strange” as in they shouldn’t have been but strange in how it was difficult to suss out exactly what all of their bragging meant. Their ad campaign for the Fury went something like: “Everybody offers a car. Only Plymouth offers a system, total concept in transportation that goes beyond eight pistons and a steering wheel.” You see, the guys over at Plymouth had gotten it into their heads that anyone could build cars with big engines, so they offered a “System.”
The System offered Fury drivers “amenities” ranging from racing team hosted supercar clinics where they could learn to tune and modify their Fury’s for racing and high performance parts available not from specialty suppliers but from neighborhood Plymouth dealers, to slots in sanctioned racing events.
Plymouth’s designers even thoughtful to give various Fury variants a few pop art touches. They shipped with reflective strobe stripes that wrapped themselves ’round the muscle car just below its beltline, and the Fury’s understated hood humps came accent with stripes. Its standard hidden headlights were trimmed high like a predators eyes.
It was available in High Impact colors galore. And not just any high impact colors, we’re talking Limelight, Violet, Vitamin C, Tor Red, Sassy Grass Green, Lemon Twist and even Moulin Rouge. What was not to love?
The Fury was literally advertised as “equipped to do battle” and in my humble opinion, it clearly was. ___________________________________________________________________________________

2014 Chevrolet Corvette at North American International Auto Show 2013
Chevrolet is redefining modern performance with today’s debut of the all-new Corvette Stingray. And only a Corvette with the perfect balance of technology, design and performance can wear the iconic Stingray designation.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm).
It is also the most capable standard model ever, able to accelerate from 0-60 in less than four seconds and achieve more than 1g in cornering grip.
It is expected to be the most fuel-efficient Corvette, exceeding the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the current model.
“Like the ’63 Sting Ray, the best Corvettes embodied performance leadership, delivering cutting-edge technologies, breathtaking design and awe-inspiring driving experiences,” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. “The all-new Corvette goes farther than ever, thanks to today’s advancements in design, technology and engineering.”
The all-new Corvette Stingray shares only two parts with the previous generation Corvette.
It incorporates an all-new frame structure and chassis, a new powertrain and supporting technologies, as well as completely new exterior and interior designs.
– An interior that includes real carbon fiber, aluminum and hand-wrapped leather materials, two new seat choices – each featuring a lightweight magnesium frame for exceptional support – and dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens
– Advanced driver technologies, including a five-position Drive Mode Selector that tailors 12 vehicle attributes to the fit the driver’s environment and a new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching that anticipates gear selections and matches engine speed for perfect shifts every time
– An all-new 6.2L LT1 V-8 engine combines advanced technologies, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system that delivers more power while using less fuel
– Lightweight materials, including a carbon fiber hood and removable roof panel; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; carbon-nano composite underbody panels and a new aluminum frame help shift weight rearward for an optimal 50/50 weight balance that supports a world-class power-to-weight ratio
– A sculptured exterior features advanced high-intensity discharge and light-emitting diode lighting and racing-proven aerodynamics that balance low drag for efficiency and performance elements for improved stability and track capability
– Track-capable Z51 Performance Package including: an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, integral brake, differential and transmission cooling, as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability.
“Stingray is one of the hallowed names in automotive history,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “We knew we couldn’t use the Stingray name unless the new car truly lived up to the legacy. The result is a new Corvette Stingray that breaks from tradition, while remaining instantly recognizable as a Corvette the world over.”
The new Corvette Stingray will be built at GM’s Bowling Green, Ky., assembly plant, which underwent a $131-million upgrade, including approximately $52 million for a new body shop to manufacture the aluminum frame in-house for the first time.
“We believe the Corvette represents the future of modern performance cars because it delivers more power, more driving excitement and better fuel efficiency,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “The result is better performance by every measure. The 2014 Corvette delivers the fastest acceleration, the most cornering grip, the most track capability, the best braking performance and what we expect to be the best fuel economy ever for a standard Corvette.”
The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013.

Toyota released a new video showing a brand new concept the brand is working on.
Its name is Furia and it will debut at the 2013 North American Auto Show in Detroit.
The concept previews an exciting new sedan and will be revealed by Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division.
This exciting new sedan concept will be revealed on 14th of January. However, there will be also a global reveal of the Furia Concept, which will be broadcasted live via Livestream at Toyota’s official page.
As for the engine, Toyota has been tight-lipped about it, but we’re pretty sure that the Furia Cincept will be either an electric or a hybrid vehicle.
Unfortunately all additional information that goes around this concept still remains hidden. The judgments we can do here are only by the video, which you can view below. All we can conclude is that the sedan will be orange, will include some carbon fiber parts and also will be equipped with specific headlights.

FIAT Brand to Debut Fiat 500 Design Concepts at the 2013 North American International Auto Show
About FIAT brand
The FIAT brand stands for discovery through passionate self-expression. It encourages people to be in charge of their lives, live confidently and celebrate the smallest of things with infectious excitement.
That philosophy is embodied by the North American introduction of the iconic Fiat 500 or Cinquecento – a small car that lives big. Italian at heart and rooted in a rich heritage, the 500 is synonymous with modern, simple design blending form, function and a pride of ownership that is genuine.
Reminiscent of the original Cinquecento, the Fiat 500 and Fiat 500c (Cabrio) build on the vehicle’s global popularity. Since its initial launch in 2007, more than 1,000,000 Fiat 500 vehicles have been sold in more than 100 countries around the world.
The model’s unquestionable popularity is the result of the Fiat 500’s great ability to deliver unmatched personalization options with advanced solutions in terms of quality, engine and passenger comfort.
In addition to success on the sales front, the Fiat 500 has earned more than 80 international awards, including being named the 2008 European Car of the Year, 2009 World Car Design of the Year and Best New Engine of 2010 (Fiat MultiAir® Turbo). In the U.S., the 2012 Fiat 500 was named “Best Buy” in the subcompact category by Consumers Digest and was deemed a “Top Safety Pick” by the influential Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The FIAT brand portfolio in North America continues to expand with the arrival of the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth, Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio and the Fiat 500 Turbo. In 2013 the FIAT brand will launch the Fiat 500e, a full-electric version of the Fiat 500, and the Fiat 500L, a new five-passenger model that will expand FIAT’s brand style and efficiency into the growing B-segment.
The FIAT brand continues to showcase the design potential of the Fiat 500 lineup with two new design concepts that will debut this month at the 2013 North American International Auto Show. The models are based on the successful high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth and the recently launched Fiat 500 Turbo, and they showcase how unique, sporty and personal their 500s can look.
At the show, the FIAT brand will also display the 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio, the all-new battery-electric 2013 Fiat 500e, and the 2014 Fiat 500L and Fiat 500L Trekking, which expand the Italian design and character of the 500 by adding two more doors plus comfortable accommodation for five passengers. All of these models were revealed at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2012.
“We are not standing still,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of FIAT Brand North America. “In 2012, we broke a record by selling more than 50,000 units in North America. A few months ago, we revealed four all-new vehicles that will carry our sales momentum into 2013. Now, at the Detroit show, we showcase how the smart use of accessories and clever design elements enhance the personality of our 500, which becomes the perfect canvas for personalization and self-expression.”
Fiat 500 Abarth “Tenebra” design concept
Building on the success of the Fiat 500 Abarth – the brand’s halo model, which sold out in only two months after being first introduced – the Fiat 500 Abarth Tenebra is designed for driving purists who crave more exclusivity and style from the only high-performance small car with the pedigree of an Italian exotic in the U.S. market.
Matte Grigio (gray) exterior paint provides the new Fiat 500 Abarth Tenebra with an individualized look. This Cinquecento features new Nero (black) Chrome exterior accents, Gloss Nero headlamp, tail lamp and parking lamp bezels, and new lightweight 16-inch Hyper Nero Chrome Abarth design aluminum wheels.
For even more distinction, the signature Abarth bodyside stripe and mirror cap are Grigio in color and remain glossy for added contrast. For a bold finishing touch, a Gloss Grigio roof-sized Abarth “Scorpion” logo delivers an unmistakable look.
The exclusive contrast of Grigio and Nero continues on the inside of the Fiat 500 Abarth Tenebra. Unique Abarth designed front performance seats with racing-harness pass through are finished in Nero leather with Grigio piping and accent stitching.
For a touch of craftsmanship, the signature Abarth flat-bottom steering wheel and instrument-panel cluster brow are wrapped in Nero leather and finished with Grigio accent stitching. Providing a highly technical look, authentic carbon fiber with a matte finish spans the width of the instrument panel, while Grigio accent stitching has been added to the shift knob and parking brake handle.
Adding a high-definition music experience the way the artist intended, the segment-exclusive Beats Audio system is standard and includes six premium speakers, an 8-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and 8-channel amplifier with Beats Audio’s proprietary digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.
Fiat 500 “Cattiva” design concept
The new Fiat 500 Cattiva adds even more excitement and style with its turbocharged engine, vibrant Rame (copper) exterior color and contrasting Nero accents for a bi-color appearance.
Inspired by the new 2013 Fiat 500 Sport and Turbo, the Fiat 500 Cattiva design concept includes Nero Chrome exterior accents, Gloss Nero headlamp, tail lamp and parking lamp bezels, and a sport-tuned suspension with unique 16-inch satin dark grey painted aluminum wheels.
For a bold appearance to the iconic Cinquecento silhouette, the roof and aggressive liftgate spoiler are painted Gloss Nero for a distinctive bi-color look.
Inside, the Fiat 500 Cattiva features a Nero interior environment and leather sport seating with a unique Matte Nero instrument panel. For additional detail, a Nero leather-wrapped sport-designed steering wheel is hand-stitched with Argento (silver) stitching, as is the matching manual transmission shift knob. And for high-performance sound, this Cinquecento design concept includes the segment-exclusive Beats Audio system.

Honda announces UK job losses: Honda plans to cut 800 jobs from its Swindon plant
Honda has announced that it is planning to cut 800 jobs at its Swindon plant, due to overcapacity caused by sustained low demand in European markets. This is the first time since the Japanese company founded the UK factory in 1985 that it has considered job cuts.
The company’s poor sales in Europe have led to unsustainable overcapacity. Currently the plant is geared up to produce 250,000 cars a year, including the new Civic, Jazz and CR-V models. Despite strong UK car sales in 2012, Honda only produced 166,000 cars.
Currently Honda employs 3500 people at the plant, and after increasing its workforce by 500 workers last year, has entered a 90-day consultation period to solve its current European crisis.

You need to watch for the wheels on your Nissan to make sure that you have something that is fully functional and capable of moving your car forward as well as possible.
You have to see what you are getting out of your car when it comes to the right spares for anything you might have.
How Large?
The size of the wheels that you use has to be considered carefully. This is important because you might find different Nissan spares with different sizes relating to what you can get.
For example, you can find different spares that are made with fifteen to nineteen inches of space. The size that can fit into your car will vary according to what you have to use and should be reviewed as carefully as possible when getting your car ready.
Getting the Tire Supported
The next part of handling your Nissan involves seeing that a good tire is set up for your wheel. You need to get several things ready for a tire that can go around a wheel:
• You need to see that the tire can actually fit around the body of your wheel. Different tires are designed with different widths to help you out with keeping your tire linked around your vehicle as well as possible without any additional parts getting in the way of whatever it is you have. • The tire also has to use an appropriate tubing system that not only fits the wheel but is also easy to inflate as needed. • The outside texture of the tire needs to be reviewed just as well. It needs to have an appropriate amount of treads to help you out with keeping the car on the road.
Secure Bolts are Needed
The bolts on your wheels have to be checked too. These bolts will be responsible for keeping the hub of your car together so it will not fall apart.
These car parts can be found on the spare parts market. You should check on many things with your Nissan wheels to see what is going on with your bolts:
• Check on the specific number of bolts that you need. • The sizes of the bolts can vary based on the design of the hub. • You will also find a number of different fasteners that are made to keep all the bolts together. The size and design of the bolts can vary according to whatever wheel you are using. • You even need to take a look at the rim on your car. The bolts should be reviewed carefully to see that they can fit through the rim.
You have to check on these wheel spares when getting your Nissan up and running. You have to use an appropriate series of spares to make it easier for you to get whatever you have set up the right way.
This is to keep problem on your Nissan from being too hard to handle as it is being utilized.

• Ford on track to sell 2.2 million U.S. vehicles in 2012, marking two straight years above the 2 million mark – the only brand to top 2 million U.S. sales since 2007
In addition, the Ford Focus is on track to become this year’s best-selling global nameplate, while the Ford Fiesta is on pace to be this year’s best-selling global B-Car, giving Ford the best-selling B and C-Car in the world, based on the latest Polk global industry data – through September.

Chrysler Group’s Uconnect Launches Industry-first Dealer-activated Navigation System
The growing importance of navigation systems is not lost on Chrysler Group. Accordingly, the company has unleashed the power of its celebrated Uconnect system to accommodate customers seeking a change in direction.
In an industry-first, Chrysler Group dealers can activate navigation functions in vehicles equipped with certain Uconnect systems. Uconnect offers navigation capability, but not all customers choose the option at the time of sale.
“Sometimes customers don’t realize what they want until they need it,” says Marios Zenios, Vice President-Uconnect Systems and Services. “That’s fine. We can help. With dealer-activated navigation, we are adopting a ‘no-customer-left-behind’ attitude.”
Dealer-activated navigation, featured here at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, makes its debut this year. It will be initially available on the 2013 Ram 1500 full-size pickup, SRT Viper and the 2014 Fiat 500L.
Because the necessary hardware already is resident in the vehicle, dealer-activated navigation affords a major convenience over portable devices, which create clutter and require charging or smartphone data plans – or both.
Dealer-activated navigation boasts the same map data as pre-ordered systems, including:
Points of interest
Junction views
Lane guidance
Speed-limit information
Intersection zoom
Trip programming
In addition, dealer-activated navigation features turn-by-turn audio instructions to further encourage drivers to keep their focus on the task at hand – driving.
Dealer-activated navigation bodes particularly well for used-car buyers, Zenios says.

Car sales grew by over five per cent in the UK in 2012, with 2.045million registrations compared to 2011’s 1.941million. 2012 saw UK car sales rise past 2million.
There were big rises for Porsche and Bentley, but bad news for Lotus and Renault
Car sales grew by over five per cent in the UK in 2012, with 2.045million registrations compared to 2011’s 1.941million.
It’s the largest sales volume since 2008, and is promising news for a car industry that has been wounded by the poor economic climate of recent years.
There were mixed fortunes for some of our favourite carmakers, however. Big winners were Porsche – with sales rising an impressive 25 per cent to 7998 cars, the new 911 and Boxster launching in 2012 – and Bentley, the new V8-engined Continental GT no doubt helping registrations rise 22 per cent to 1267 units.
There was similar success for other UK manufacturers, Jaguar seeing a slight rise of 2.3 per cent, Land Rover a more substantial 29 per cent (thank the Evoque for much of that) and MG a whopping 117 per cent, though sales of the MG6 hatchback and saloon rose from 360 to a still thin 782 cars.
A sad contrast can be found at Lotus, with sales plummeting by over 58 per cent, 137 cars sold in the whole of 2012. It’s another clear sign of a sports car manufacturer in trouble. Other losers were Subaru (sales down 23 per cent to 2023), Alfa Romeo (down 37 per cent to 7253) and Renault (down 40 per cent to 40,760).
The UK’s best selling car was, once again, the Ford Fiesta, accounting for over five per cent of all registrations with 109,265 sales. The full list is below.

Debut of the 2014 Audi R8 and Audi RS 5 Cabriolet at the North American International Auto Show
Audi of America announces the U.S. debut of the much anticipated 2014 Audi R8 model line and new Audi RS 5 Cabriolet at the NAIAS. The iconic R8 represents the pinnacle of Audi performance while the RS 5 Cabriolet combines track-tested engineering with the freedom of open air driving.
The four-seat convertible with a cloth soft top entices with a unique combination of elegance and power.
• New 2014 Audi R8 improves in performance and efficiency through new S tronic® transmission • New 2014 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet now available in the U.S. • Audi to introduce more models at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS)
The R8 and RS models are engineered to perform on the track and also for comfortable weekend drives.
“Coming off the momentum we’ve built with the launch of the all-new Audi S models, the new Audi R8 and RS 5 Cabriolet further invigorate the next chapter of our Audi performance models,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. “We know that driving enthusiasts are excited to have these cars come to our shores, but they will be even more thrilled to know this is just the beginning.”
2014 Audi R8
The R8 is the pinnacle of the Audi model lineup that comprises of three different engine variants: the R8 V8, the R8 V10 and the R8 V10 Plus. The high performance sports car is now more dynamic and powerful than ever before thanks to numerous improvements, including a newly developed seven-speed S tronic® transmission that helped improve the 0-60 mph time by 0.3 seconds on the R8 V10 Plus.
Audi RS 5 Cabriolet
The new seven-speed S tronic double-clutch transmission significantly boosts the performance of the Audi R8.The new S tronic transmission also improves driving comfort with smoother shifts.
At the top of the range is the new R8 V10 Plus with 550 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque. Equipped with the S tronic, it catapults from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 196 mph.
It weighs approximately 100 lbs. less than the R8 V10 due to utilizing carbon fiber side blades, front splitter, rear diffuser, spoiler; a smaller fuel tank; manual Alcantara® seats and ceramic brakes.
To further enhance the Audi R8 design, several aesthetic adjustments are added throughout the vehicle. Some of the most noticeable changes are the newly structured LED headlights that are now standard on all models, the hexagonal Singleframe® grille, new side mirrors and the large, round tailpipe trims are the most obvious elements. The rear lights of all models include the innovative dynamic turn signals.
The Audi R8 V10 with the S tronic completes the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.4 seconds and generates 525 horsepower with 391 lb.-ft. of torque. It has a top speed of 195 mph. The Audi R8 V8 FSI® produces 430 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque. In combination with the seven-speed S tronic, it accelerates the R8 V8 from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 186 mph.
All Audi R8 models have the option of the gated 6-speed manual transmission or the S tronic transmission. The Audi R8 Spyder is available with the V8 and V10 engine. The R8 V10 Plus is available as a coupe only.
2014 RS 5 Cabriolet
The highly successful RS 5 coupe extends its model series with the addition of this high-end soft-top, which entices with a unique combination of prestige and power. With nearly identical performance numbers as the coupe, the RS 5 Cabriolet is powered by a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine with FSI direct injection.
Its 4.2 liter engine outputs 450 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and produces a maximum torque of 317 lb.-ft. between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. With a curb weight of 4,420 lbs., the Audi RS 5 Cabriolet launches from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The car’s top speed is limited to 174 mph; while at the same time having a class leading fuel economy* and no gas guzzler tax.
The exterior and interior of the Audi RS 5 Cabriolet retains the essence of the RS 5 Coupe. When the top is down it only requires 2.12 cu-ft. of its 13.42 cu-ft. trunk volume. The split rear seatbacks can be folded over individually, and a load-through hatch from the trunk to the rear seating area improves ease of access functionality. Special reinforcements contribute to the convertible body’s high rigidity, and aluminum front fenders compensate for some of the added weight of the reinforcements.
The new LED light strips illuminate the headlights and taillights without any conventional incandescent lamps. Like the lights, the rear bumper was also redesigned; its diffuser is now much higher, and a honeycomb screen insert encloses the two large elliptical tailpipes of the exhaust system. On the trunk lid there is a subtle matte carbon spoiler lip for additional downforce.
The sport seats have power adjustments, high side panels for optimal lateral support, integrated head restraints, a lumbar support and a pull-out thigh support.
They are upholstered in a combination of leather and Alcantara or in the optional black or lunar silver Fine Nappa leather.
All leather types are pigmented to reduce heating by sunlight. At the press of a button, the soft top opens and closes automatically in 15 seconds and 17 seconds respectively – even when driving at speeds of up to 30 mph. On hot summer days when the top is down, drivers can select the optional climate-controlled seats for added comfort.
The Audi R8 and RS 5 Cabriolet will both go on sale in Spring 2013.

The Top New and Used Cars for 2012: A Year in Review
As consumers and drivers roll forward to 2013, it##Q##s the perfect time to have a look back at the most researched and favored new and used cars of 2012. This year marked the 40th anniversary of BMW##Q##s electric car and was a big year in going hybrid and using new technology and fuel alternatives.
Every year car buyers look online to find the vehicles that rank high in safety, performance and fuel efficiency that won##Q##t break the bank.
ConsumerReport.org writer Liza Barth listed the top 10 most researched of the new and used cars for 2012 and the findings are a bit surprising.
While most car manufacturers are developing lighter-weight and more compact cars, such as the Toyota Prius and soon-to-come BMW i3, it was found that consumers were doing more research on SUVs and high-performance sedans.
The report showed the rankings of 10 new and 10 used vehicles. We agreed with a few of their findings, and thought we##Q##d narrow the choices down a bit.
New-to-you
This past year in used cars has been all about the sedan and the mid-level SUV. The Toyota Highlander made its debut, as a mid-size crossover sports utility vehicle. This SUV has remained a popular pick for 11 years now because it maintains stability at high speeds (187 horsepower), due to its excellent torque (186 pound/feet). The Highlander is still celebrated for having a powerful V6 engine that is fuel efficient (getting 25 miles to the gallon).
It has great traction control and is easy to maneuver, making this 2012 Toyota a perfect fit for the growing family that wants a safe and strong vehicle that can seat up to seven comfortably.
In close second, is the 2012 Honda Civic hybrid. This hybrid promotes safety and comfort and gets great mileage. It##Q##s spacious and is available as a coupe as well as a sedan. It doesn##Q##t have a great deal of space in the trunk, but that##Q##s because they have to put the vehicle battery somewhere away from the front engine. If you##Q##re in the market for one of these used cars, but you don##Q##t have the cash flow at the moment, there are a few options that you can explore.
Many drivers will lease a vehicle or, if they are working on improving their poor credit score, they can log on and take two minutes to fill out a DriveTime bad credit car loan. So, just because you##Q##re unemployed and looking for work, that doesn##Q##t mean you can##Q##t have reliable transportation to job interviews.
This year##Q##s compact car that is most coveted is oddly not a hybrid or even an electric vehicle, the 2013 Subaru Forester is an all-wheel drive gas vehicle that seats five and gets 27 miles to the gallon. This car isn##Q##t for the family or for the luxury vehicle driver but it does do a lot for the driver who loves to go on camping and hiking trips in the great outdoors.
This strong turbo-charged mid-size crossover SUV will make you a Subaru lover for life, and they are coming out with a stronger, more efficient model in 2014.
Whether it##Q##s brand new or a used vehicle that##Q##s new to you, these vehicles will get you started in the right direction.
If you want to research new and used vehicles on your own, one tool that we##Q##ve found to be useful is Edmunds.com; this online resource has an online mobile app too that can be uploaded to your iPhone or Android if you##Q##re on the go and searching for cars.

The F-TYPE Coupe visual message is defined by three key ‘heart lines’, that visual message beginning with the formidable grille. It is from the twin ‘shark gill’ openings that sit either side of the grille that the essential first heart line – which mirrors the design of the F-TYPE Convertible – flows and begins to take shape. Running up through the headlamp, and accentuated by the LED ‘J blade’ signature running lamps, the line then arcs up over the front wheel arch before dropping elegantly as it runs through the door, washing out into the muscular rear haunch.
The second heart line begins at the rear edge of the door, swelling outwards and upwards to create a visually strong wheel arch, emphasizing the car’s rear-wheel drive layout, before dropping vertically through the tail lamp ...
