3 Factors You Need To Consider Before Getting Car Insurance

3 Factors You Need To Consider Before Getting Car Insurance

Car Insurance
Car Insurance

You buy insurance because you know it will help you in case of any accident.

You crib about it, but still pay the large premium because you know that at the time of claim you can benefit from it.

However, you will notice that your insurance doesn’t benefit you completely.

How much you benefit from your insurance depends on the options in your policy. Here are three factors that you need to consider before getting car insurance, so that you can completely benefit from it.

1. It Should Cover Your Health Insurance

A good insurance is one that covers not just you but also your family. When you choose a car insurance, make sure it covers your family and your safety. If you do not have a separate health insurance, then do pay additional premium to get a health insurance with your auto insurance.
This will ensure that your medical expenses are covered if you ever happen to have a car accident. When you have the option of getting a health insurance along with your auto insurance, why should you waste money with two different insurances? It makes sense to get a combination of the two. And, you also save money

2. Cover Against Uninsured Drivers

It is wise decision to get a cover that gives you protection from uninsured drivers. Research has shown that in majority of the accidents, the driver who is at fault is uninsured. If you want to insure yourself completely, you should assume that the other drivers will not have an insurance that is as good as yours. It can be a little difficult to accept that you have to pay more for some else’s mistake, but it is better than being caught without any accident cover and losing your vehicle for no fault of yours.

3. Be Prepared For Unforeseen Accidents

You get your car insured against collisions, theft or vandalism, but there are many unforeseen incidents that you never think of covering. You should never do that. Always consider the worst-case scenarios when insuring your car. Your car can be damaged by flood or fire, or it can be damaged because of an uninsured motorist.

I also recommend this article  How to Ship Your Car Overseas

What do you do in such a situation, if your car insurance doesn’t cover these incidents? It is always practical to get your car fully covered for any damage that can happen to it. Always ensure that you have coverage to even fully repair your car or replace it with a new one.

All insurances have hidden clauses.
You should, therefore, you read the fine print carefully. Ask your insurance agent if you have any doubts. Never sign the insurance papers until you are fully satisfied with the clauses and the policies. You are liable for whatever you sign and you will violate your policy and lose out on all your coverage if you make any mistakes, even unknowingly. So do not rush, carefully read through the document and then sign the papers.

Nissan Micra – The Drivers Car!

Nissan Micra – The Drivers Car!

Nissan Micra
Nissan Micra

Launched in 2010, Nissan Micra was the first low budget car introduced by the company into the competitive car segment in Indian market.

Though not a popular choice for many in India; who still go for conventional brands, the looks, bubbly designs, mileage and other attractive features of the car has caught sizeable number of eye-balls in the country.

The car fits in the Indian market due to its super tight turning radius. This quality makes it easy to drive in areas having high traffic. The steering feel is light and Micra can be a hoot to drive in congested city traffic. At high speeds, the long wheelbase, longer than the Ritz, i10, Beat etc, enhances its stability on road. What might bug you is low ground clearance of just 154mm.

The Micra in terms of size when placed next to rivals turn out to be smallest but looks cute. The disappointment is its 378m length, 166.5m width and 153m height.

I also recommend this article  How to Ship Your Car Overseas

The other qualities that makes Micra an options is driver##Q##s visibility, which is much better than the other competitors of this range.

It makes you smile and impresses you with key-less experience entry system in top end models. While the exterior with oval and bug-eyed headlamps and a raised hood leaves a good impression, the philosophy of being cute is carried on inside as well. Micra is seen best from its side profile which leaves a retro style statement.

In fact, side angle is the best angle from where its compactness and cute features are more visible. At the rear, the tail lamps are small and give it a very tight profile. Inside, the central console with nicely fitted and attractive audio system and climate control finished in silver leaves nothing to complain about the innovation of the company.

The car is spacious and can easily accommodate five without complaining. The speedometer console is neat and simple. What may disappoint you is quality of plastic used inside the car, weak horn as per Indian conditions and 251 litre boot, which is not big in this segment of cars.

I also recommend this article  2009: New VW Golf 6 (VI) Pictures - Price 15.000 Euro

Unlike, other competitors having 4-cylinder petrol engine, Micra was first launched in petrol variant having 3-cylinder. The difference is when you start the car 3-cylinder engine vibrates and makes a bit uncomfortable sound. This motor produces 75 Bhp power and gives mileage of 18.06 kmpl, which is pretty good. However, the higher selling car became its diesel variant.

The company used one of best diesel engines in the world that are also used in Mahindra Logan and Nissan Sunny and Renault Fluence. The company claims its mileage about 23.08 kmpl. The petrol Micra range has four models sold at price ranging from Rs 4.05 lakh to Rs 5.35 lakh. The diesel engine has only two models sold at a price ranging from Rs 5.58 lakh to 6.04 lakh.

All-new 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio

New 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio: The Ultimate High-performance Italian Small Car Adds Open-air Driving Excitement

The Fiat 500 Abarth brought world-class performance and precision, purposeful and aggressive styling, high power-to-weight ratio and limited-production volume to North American driving enthusiasts in 2012.

Adding even more excitement to Karl Abarth’s line of “small but wicked” cars, the new 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio harks back to his open-air track cars of the 1960s, while delivering the most visceral experience of any modern Cinquecento to date.

The new Fiat 500c Abarth delivers the wicked attitude and track-proven capabilities of the hatchback model, now with the rush of open-air Italian performance,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of FIAT Brand for North America — Chrysler Group LLC.

And with the push of a button our new turbocharged cabrio can unleash that added sense of freedom, while offering one of the most respected soundtracks of all-time, the rasp from its signature Abarth-tuned dual exhausts.”

Open-air freedom with an intelligent power cloth top and rigid structural design

With the Fiat 500 Abarth’s high-performance DNA intact, the new 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth is engineered with the same track-proven attributes that have made the hatchback model a success on European and North American roadways and racetracks, but now brings even more fresh air and the unmistakable Abarth-tuned exhaust note into the cabin.

With just the push of a button, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s power-operated cloth top retracts up to the rear spoiler during speeds up to a best-in-class 60 mph (a midway point can be chosen by pressing the button anytime in between). Press the roof button again, and the roof will neatly fold all the way open and tuck neatly behind the rear head restraints (up to 50 mph). The power operated cloth top is also intelligently designed.

For access to the Fiat 500c Abarth’s trunk, premium “parallelogram” liftgate hinges conveniently position the liftgate out of the way, while the power-operated cloth top automatically retracts back to the rear-spoiler position to avoid any obstruction.

In addition to its cleverly designed multi-position power-retractable cloth top, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s fully stamped body-side silhouette retains the iconic Cinquecento form while delivering added structural strength and 70 percent less header shake than key competitors. In addition, its longer windshield and minimized header design maximize rear-seated passengers’ outward visibility, while minimizing cabin turbulence.

1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine with 117 horsepower per liter

Like the Fiat 500 Abarth, the new 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth features the track-proven 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine for 160 horsepower, up to 170 ft.-lb. of torque and 0-to-60 mph performance in the low 7 second range.

Compared with the Fiat 500c’s naturally aspirated 1.4-liter MultiAir engine, the boost to 160 horsepower on the Fiat 500c Abarth is largely due to its single turbocharger that operates off engine exhaust and utilizes energy that would normally be wasted through the tailpipe. The turbocharger spins up to 230,000 rpm to convert exhaust heat and pressure to a rotational force that drives a compressor. The compressor draws cool air and pumps it into the intake manifold at increased pressure (maximum 18 psi / 1.24 bar) that results in a greater amount of air in the cylinder and, hence, more power.

The 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo’s induction system includes two intercoolers located behind the driver- and passenger-side air inlets of the Abarth-styled front fascia. The intercoolers are designed to remove heat in the air charge that the turbocharger generates while compressing incoming air (higher air density for more power). Reducing heat provides a cooler, denser air charge that helps increase the potential for more power.

Other high-performance engine component upgrades include an Abarth-designed fresh-air intake system with high-flow air filter and smooth-flowing plumbing for maximum power. And to make sure the engine is operating with minimal exhaust gas restriction, an Abarth-designed concentric “double-tip” dual-exhaust system delivers a high-performance look with menacing Abarth-tuned sound.

Developed for high-output applications, the Fiat 500c Abarth is equipped with the track-proven C510 five-speed manual transmission. Proven on the European 500 Abarth models, this transmission features a 3.35 final-drive ratio for quick acceleration and faster top speed, while maintaining fuel efficiency.

Designed to handle the increased torque loads, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s C510 transmission includes an intermediate shaft with equal-length half shafts to mitigate torque steer. Compared with the Fiat 500c, the 500c Abarth features 23 percent larger half shafts (28.1 mm diameter vs. 22.8 mm diameter in the Fiat 500c) for increased strength and to reduce torsional stress in the driveline during performance driving on the road or track. To handle the increased power and torque of the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, larger constant velocity (CV) joints with 53 percent greater torsional strength (2,600 N•m vs. 1,700 N•m in the Fiat 500) deliver added durability and refinement.

Track-ready performance hardware

For more than fun under the sun, the new 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth is designed, engineered and tested to deliver the high-performance driving and enduring capabilities needed for track use.

Like the hatchback, the new 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth features an enhanced front- and rear-suspension design to deliver the precision handling, steering and refinement needed for high-performance driving. Compared to the Fiat 500c, the Fiat 500c Abarth features a unique MacPherson suspension design with 33 percent stiffer front spring rates and 0.6-inch (15 mm) lower ride height (compared to the Fiat 500c) for improved handling and minimal body roll.

Abarth-designed cast-iron front lower control arms provide improved lateral stiffness, while an increase in negative camber to -1.5 degrees delivers improved grip and steering precision. In addition, dual-valve frequency selective damping (FSD) KONI twin-tube struts deliver road control and maximum grip, while actively filtering out high-frequency suspension inputs from uneven road surfaces to adjust for comfort and smoothness.

The beefier rear-suspension design of the Fiat 500c Abarth takes the Fiat 500c model’s (already 300 percent stiffer than the European Fiat 500) twist-beam design further, with a torsionally rigid rear axle designed with strengthened coil-spring supports for greater durability. A 0.87-inch (22 mm) Abarth-specific solid rear stabilizer bar increases cornering grip. For improved handling, minimal body roll and ride-height control (when fully loaded), the new Fiat 500c Abarth features 12 percent stiffer rear springs with 0.6-inch (15 mm) lower ride.

For 10 percent quicker steering to enhance responsiveness, maneuverability and high-performance feel, the Fiat 500c Abarth features a 15.1:1 (up from the Fiat 500c’s 16.3:1) steering-gear ratio. Compared to the Fiat 500c, the 500c Abarth features a uniquely tuned electronic power steering (EPS) calibration for increased steering response and feedback. In addition, the Fiat 500c Abarth features a road crown and cross wind compensation algorithm, which automatically compensates for temporary situations where there is a constant push of the car to one side or another, assisting the driver against driving during such conditions.

The Fiat 500c Abarth features a high-performance brake system with semi-metallic brake linings at all four corners, and larger 11.1-inch ventilated rotors for greater stopping power (up from 10.1-inch). Both front and rear brake calipers are lacquered in Rosso (red) paint for an athletic look. An Abarth-tuned electronic stability control system (ESC) features a three-mode calibration to maximize the Fiat 500c Abarth’s handling capabilities on and off the track. When ESC is selected from “On” to “Partial Off” or “Full Off” on the instrument panel, the 500c Abarth’s innovative torque transfer control (TTC) system maximizes throttle performance during on-throttle cornering.

Standard on the Fiat 500c Abarth are 16 x 6.5-inch cast-aluminum wheels with 195/45 R16 Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires that deliver all-season traction and low-noise characteristics. For even more performance, larger and wider 17 x 7-inch forged-aluminum wheels keep this Cinquecento lightweight at each corner and feature high-performance three-season Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires with a 205/40 R17 size for a wider stance and reduced profile for improved handling.

Exterior and interior design enhancements added only for performance gain

The aggressive styling of the Fiat 500c Abarth embodies the Abarth brand tradition in full — purposeful and intentional details all designed to improve the car’s performance, while enhancing the clean and simple design language of the Cinquecento.

To improve aerodynamics and the necessary engine compartment space for the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s features a more pronounced front fascia. For additional air intake, the signature “Abarth” shield floats on a finned surface and a larger intake below consists of three inlets with broader openings than the Fiat 500c. For a more aggressive look, twin “nostrils” are precisely positioned on the front fascia to maximize airflow in and out of the two engine intercoolers (both intercoolers are visible through the “nostril” inlets).

Abarth-designed side skirts give the Fiat 500c Abarth an athletic profile, while 16-inch or optional 17-inch lightweight forged-aluminum wheels fill the flared wheel arches and provide ventilation for the performance brake system.
From the rear, an Abarth-designed cloth-top-mounted spoiler extends the roofline and improves the vehicle’s aerodynamic behavior by creating additional downforce. Below, the two-piece Abarth-styled rear fascia accentuates the road-holding stance and optimizes airflow output with its rear diffuser. In addition large concentric “double-tip” exhausts provide an exclusive Abarth-tuned sound and look.

The interior design theme of the 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth is an artistic blend of clean lines and functional performance appointments. An Abarth-designed steering wheel features a thick rim, perforated leather and flat bottom to provide the look, feel and increased roominess desired during at-the-limit driving. A large concentric instrument cluster with 160-mph speedometer, tachometer and trip computer sits behind the steering wheel, and features a leather-wrapped cluster brow wrapped in Nero (black) leather with Rosso (red) accent stitching. To the left, an analog turbo-boost gauge with integrated LED shift light in the center that illuminates to an instant before redline to optimize gear changes. Below the instrument panel, Abarth-designed aluminum pedal covers feature Nero rubber trim for a decidedly racing look, while the Nero leather shift knob with Rosso accent stitching provides a precise feel of the shifter.

Unique Abarth-styled front performance seats feature a one-piece design with large side bolsters, a racing-harness pass through, accent stitching around the perimeter and integrated side-thorax air bags. To highlight that this cabrio has the most interior space, rear-seat legroom and shoulder room among key competitors – the rear passengers’ upper seatbacks are raised and bolstered for added back support.

New for 2013, the segment-exclusive-and first-time-ever-in-a-cabrio integration of Beats by Dr. Dre audio system offers passengers of the Fiat 500c Abarth a high-definition music experience the way the artist intended. The Beats Audio studio-quality sound system includes six premium speakers, an 8-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and eight-channel amplifier with Beats Audio digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

Abarth-tuned “Sport” mode

The Fiat 500c Abarth features a standard-equipped “Sport” mode calibration for more engaging driving. Should the driver select Sport mode on the instrument panel, the Abarth-tuned PCM unleashes the full power of the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo (torque increases from 150 ft.-lb. to 170 ft.-lb.) with linear throttle response and a more performance-weighted steering feel. When Sport mode is not engaged, the Cabrio returns to “Normal” mode and limits the torque in first and second gears to enhance fuel efficiency and minimize CO2 emissions.

Abarth shift light with turbo-boost gauge

An additional benefit of the Abarth-tuned PCM is the driver’s shift light with turbo-boost gauge mounted left of the instrument cluster. Should the driver choose to switch to “Sport” mode, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s LED-illuminated shift light flashes as the engine speed approaches the redline — giving the immediate feedback needed on the track or during high-performance driving.

BLUE&ME Handsfree Communication technology

BLUE&ME Handsfree Communication technology is an in-vehicle, voice-activated communication system that allows the Fiat 500c Abarth driver to operate a Bluetooth-compatible phone while keeping his or her hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Using a series of voice commands, the driver can place phone calls and access the phone’s address book. BLUE&ME Handsfree Communication technology supports most mobile phones with Bluetooth technology.

Innovative TomTom navigation

With the available TomTom navigation with BLUE&ME Handsfree Communication technology, the Fiat 500c Abarth integrates an innovative 4.3-inch (10.9 cm) TomTom portable navigation device that docks on top of the instrument panel. With its large touchscreen, simple map displays with available real-time traffic, weather and points of interest, TomTom Navigation with BLUE&ME Handsfree Communication technology is intuitive for the driver to use. And with its direct integration into the Fiat 500 Abarth’s interior system, the driver is able to use steering-wheel-mounted controls to make operation even easier.

More than 35 safety and security features including Abarth-tuned electronic stability control (ESC)
State-of-the-art connectivity and more than 35 safety and security features keep passengers of the 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth connected, comfortable and secure.

The Fiat 500c Abarth features seven standard air bags, including driver and front-passenger advanced multistage air bags, driver’s knee air bag, full-length side-curtain air bags and standard seat-mounted side pelvic-thorax air bags, all offering enhanced protection to all occupants in the event of a collision.

In addition, the Fiat 500c Abarth features a unique three-mode electronic stability control (ESC) system standard for improved braking performance in wet or panic conditions. The Abarth-tuned ESC system features a three-mode calibration including “ESC On” to “ESC Partial Off” and enthusiast-desired “ESC Full Off.”

Do You Really Need A Lawyer For Settlement Of Insurance Claim?

Do You Really Need A Lawyer For Settlement Of Insurance Claim?

Do You Really Need A Lawyer For Settlement Of Insurance Claim?
Do You Really Need A Lawyer
For Settlement Of Insurance Claim?

When you have a claim to settle from an insurance company, there are a number of things that run through your mind.

The chief amongst them is whether you need to hire a lawyer or not.

Both the sides have equal advantages and it all depends on your point of view and preference.

If you hire a lawyer, things would be smoother and easier without complications.

Plus, you don’t have to do any work except paying the lawyer. However, if you avoid a lawyer, you have to work extra hard to make up for the absence of an expert.

But the main point in favor of this is the money you would spend when you hire Los Angeles personal injury attorneys. The following points should be given due consideration before you make a decision :

  • Benefits Of Lawyers
The benefits of hiring a lawyer are not only qualitative but also, quantitative. You would not only get an expert advisor to rely on but, your settlement amount would potentially increase as well since the lawyer gets a commission out of it.

This is because the lawyer would negotiate with the company and make sure that you get what is due to you. If the amount is less than what he thinks you deserve, he will sue the insurance company. You can later recover your money from the court.

  • Settlement SizeIt is all a question of opportunity cost. Basically, you have to decide the monetary implications of not hiring a lawyer. A lawyer would definitely increase your settlement amount so that his fee is covered in it. However, you need to decide whether you are left with enough settlement money after his fee or not.

Compare this with the lower but full settlement amount you would have received if you had not employed a lawyer. You will get your answer in numbers.

  • Case Necessity
Blindly hiring a lawyer is a loss making idea because then it won’t pay off. Your case needs to demand a lawyer. Is it something that is so complicated that you can’t handle it yourself? Is there a lot of technical stuff involved?

These are the questions that would need ‘yes’ as an answer to justify a lawyer’s presence. Otherwise, you are just wasting money by hiring an expert for a simple case that could be handled equally well by yourself.

  • 4. Other Considerations
In case of personal injury, usually both the parties are at fault. However, one party is more at fault than the other. If the discussion is complicated and the negotiations are becoming difficult, a lawyer could be helpful in such a case. They would simplify matters because of their technical expertise on the insurance laws.

However, hiring a lawyer also means that settlements go for a longer time. The finalization is stretched on because of offers and counteroffers.

If you do not hire a lawyer and simply settle it yourself, it would be much faster and easier to close.

Toyota Aygo and Twins Disappoint in Safety Tests

Toyota Aygo and Twins Disappoint in Safety Tests

Toyota Aygo
Toyota Aygo

The Toyota Aygo and its twins the Citroën C1 and Peugeot 107 have achieved 3 stars in Euro NCAP’s latest test series.

All three cars have been recently facelifted from the previous models tested by Euro NCAP, that achieved four stars adult for occupant protection back in 2005.

While the facelifted models are sold as new to the public, it is clear that they have failed to keep abreast of latest safety developments and standards.

Dr Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP Secretary General says: ‘Our test protocols have evolved significantly over the past few years. There are more tests and the requirements have become more stringent.

Despite this, many manufacturers have engineered their latest cars to achieve the highest score.

On the other hand, we see that some manufacturers continue to offer popular best sellers without making the necessary incremental updates to safety. It is those models that obviously fall behind other, more modern cars competing in the same category.

I also recommend this article  Insurance losses by make and model

The current model of Aygo and its twins lack basic items such as side impact airbags and electronic stability control as standard equipment.

In response to Euro NCAP’s tests, Toyota has made a commitment to make the following items standard by July 2013 in all European countries:

  • side thorax airbag
  • side head curtain airbag
  • electronic stability control
  • passenger seatbelt reminder
  • ISOFIX and top-tether in rear outboard seats

PSA Peugeot-Citroën has also committed to do the same with its 107 and C1 models.

To encourage this greater fitment, Euro NCAP has rated the car with this equipment onboard. Dr van Ratingen: ##Q##With this non-standard equipment fitted, the Aygo achieves a three-star result; without it, the rating would probably have been much worse. Side impact airbags and electronic stability control are standard on many cars in this category and our tests demonstrate how important it is for manufacturers to keep their cars up to date when it comes to safety. As our protocols develop, cars last tested many years ago should not be assumed to compare well with more modern vehicles. Consumers should buy cars on the basis that the more recent the star rating, the safer the car.##Q##

It was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door model, followed by a three-door hatchback that September. Remember now 2012 model –

New Honda Civic 5 Door Receives 5-star Euro NCAP Overall Safety Rating and Advanced NCAP Award for Safety Innovation

The new Honda Civic 5 door has been rated one of Europe‘s safest cars, according to new independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP. In addtion, Euro NCAP have announced that they are extending Honda‘s Advanced NCAP reward for its Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) technology to include the new Civic.

I also recommend this article  Dacia Duster Road Test Review

The new Honda Civic has been awarded Euro NCAP’s maximum 5-star rating. The rating scheme focuses on the vehicle’s overall safety performance which gives consumers an easy to understand single score.

The system considers occupant protection, child protection, pedestrian protection and the availability of driver aids. Since the introduction of Euro NCAP‘s new rating scheme (February 2009) all Honda models tested have achieved 5 stars.

Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP Secretary General, commented “The 9th generation Civic impressed and achieved high scores in all areas of assessment, putting it on a par with its rivals in this competitive market segment. The car scored well in Safety Assist and is also fitted as an option with Honda‘s Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS).”

Euro NCAP also announced today that they are extending Honda‘s Advanced NCAP reward for its CMBS technology to include the new Civic.

The reward recognises Honda‘s CMBS technology as amongst the best available safety innovations, offering research proven benefits. Euro NCAP Advanced is an initiative developed in response to the rapid development of new safety technologies, for which there is no independent assessment.

Honda has been recognized for its Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS), a radar-based autonomous emergency braking system. CMBS is designed to help prevent collisions with vehicles which are stationary or travelling in the same direction.

The system is aimed at alerting the driver to an imminent collision both at low speeds, typical of urban driving, and at higher speeds typical of rural roads and motorways. By studying accident statistics in Germany and extending the figures to the broader European community, Honda estimates that, if all cars were fitted with CMBS, between 200,000 and 250,000 accidents could be either prevented or mitigated every year.

The new Civic’s top safety rating and Advanced NCAP reward reflect Honda‘s commitment to overall vehicle safety. Honda‘s car-to-car crash test facility at the Tochigi R&D center analyzes impacts between models of different sizes and weights and develops solutions to mitigate injuries for both passengers and pedestrians.

The omni-directional vehicle-to-vehicle crash test facility opened in 2001 and is the world’s first indoor facility of its type.

2013 Verano Continues Buick Five-Star Safety Streak

2013 Verano Continues Buick Five-Star Safety Streak

Buick is a modern luxury brand offering vehicles with sculpted designs, luxurious interiors with thoughtful personal technologies, along with responsive-yet-efficient performance.

Buick is attracting new customers with its portfolio of award-winning luxury models, including the Enclave crossover, LaCrosse sedan, Regal sport sedan, Buick Verano sedan and the all-new 2013 Encore crossover.

All-new 2013 Buick Verano

All-new Buick Verano
All-new Buick Verano

The Buick Verano compact luxury sedan recently received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Earlier this year, Verano was named a 2012 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Since the beginning of the 2012 model year, every Buick passenger car tested has received these highest possible ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS.

New car customers leaving a Buick dealership can drive away knowing they are in a vehicle with superior crash protection,” said Gay Kent, GM General Director of Vehicle Safety.

I also recommend this article  Why You Need Car Insurance

The brand’s long-running record of five-star overall vehicle scores and Top Safety Picks is a testament to our commitment to exceptional vehicle crash performance.

In achieving the 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score, the Verano was tested under NHTSA’s revised New Car Assessment Program. The overall score is based on frontal and side crash tests in addition to evaluation for rollover resistance. Under the rating system, performances in three test segments are combined mathematically into an “Overall Vehicle Score.”

The Verano has 10 standard air bags and the security of OnStar, a combination unmatched by any competitor. In the event of a rollover crash, sensors in the vehicle deploy standard head curtain air bags prior to impact and leave them inflated for a longer period to provide additional protection.

Verano’s advanced body structure is comprised of more than 60 percent high-strength steel that provides a protective safety cage around occupants. Other safety measures include standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, panic brake override, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, and a collapsible pedal system that reduces the risk of leg injury.

Every 2013 Buick Verano comes with a standard Rear Vision Camera that displays a view from the car’s rear bumper whenever the transmission is in reverse. Verano is available with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These two technologies share a set of radar sensors hidden in the corners of the rear bumper that may help drivers avoid crashes when changing lanes or backing.

Opel plans to end car production in Bochum in 2016

Opel plans to end car production in Bochum in 2016

Adam Opel AG management today informed its employees that vehicle production is planned to end in Bochum at the end of the current Zafira lifecycle – expected in 2016.

In June, Opel announced that no successor to the current Zafira is planned to be allocated in Bochum in view of the shrinking European car market and the overcapacities in the automotive industry.

Despite intensive efforts this situation could not be changed.

The warehouse in Bochum will continue to offer jobs beyond 2016 and could be expanded. Additionally, Opel is negotiating with the employee representatives to allocate a new component production in Bochum.

On top of this, the working group “Bochum Perspective 2022”, which was recently established by Opel, has the objective to focus on site development, to secure existing jobs and create new ones in the City of Bochum and the entire Ruhr region.

I also recommend this article  One Europe, One Driving Licence

Bochum Perspective 2022” is composed of representatives of local and regional government, along with leaders and innovators from labor, industry, academia and financial institutions located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Opel will support the initiative financially and personnel-wise.

Building on the Bochum Perspective 2022, we have a clear goal for securing a significant number of tariff-bound jobs at Adam Opel AG. They include positions in our warehouses and potentially component production. Opel takes its responsibility seriously and will implement still-necessary job reductions in the most socially responsible way. The goal of our negotiations with the works council is to refrain from forced redundancies before the run-out of the current Zafira,” said Steve Girsky, GM Vice Chairman, Chairman of the Opel Supervisory Board and Acting President of GM Europe.

Germany is our most important market and with about 20,000 employees the backbone and home of our brand. And this will stay this way in the future,” Opel Deputy CEO Dr. Thomas Sedran said. Opel also has the responsibility for its independent dealers; in North-Rhine-Westphalia alone there are 320 Opel dealers who employ about 5,300 employees.

I also recommend this article  Audi A6/S6 and A7/S7 selected as ‘2013 10Best’ winners

This move is part of the company’s long term plan “Drive Opel 2022” which targets break-even results by mid-decade.

Opel plans to increase its revenue and variable profit significantly by more cost-efficiency, re-focusing its go-to-market strategy, improving the image of the Opel brand, strengthening the quality of market share and entering new markets and segments.

From 2012 to 2016, Opel will launch 23 new models and 13 new engines in total.

Five Euro NCAP Stars and Top Score for Opel Mokka

Five Euro NCAP Stars and Top Score for Opel Mokka

The Opel Mokka SUV has been awarded five stars by the independent consumer organization Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program).

With this, yet another car made by Opel has achieved the highest score from Euro NCAP.

If you add up all the scores the Mokka achieved in the four categories adult occupant, child occupant, pedestrian and safety assist, the new Opel SUV was given the highest total score of all tested cars, see detailed results here. It now joins the ranks of the Ampera, Astra, Corsa, Insignia, Meriva and Zafira which all scored the top rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP program.

  • New sub-compact SUV meets highest safety standards
  • One of only a handful of cars to achieve 100 percent on safety assist
  • Excellent child safety performance

It has been a longstanding tradition at Opel to offer the highest possible safety standards to our customers, and the Mokka impressively strengthens our leading role in safety technology. As always, Opel brings cutting-edge technologies to a wider segment of customers. We are extremely proud of this,” says Opel Vice President Engineering, Michael F. Ableson.

At the top of the class: Euro NCAP results in detail

Overall, the Opel Mokka achieved impressive results in all five safety categories tested by Euro NCAP. The new Opel SUV scored maximum points or 100 percent in the safety assist category, making it one of only a handful of cars in the European market to be given such a strong test rating.

I also recommend this article  How to Ship Your Car Overseas

For example, Euro NCAP gave a positive rating to the Mokka’s electronic stability control ESP®Plus and also for its seatbelt reminder function as well as its speed limitation assistance. These are all standard features in the Mokka.

In the adult occupant category, the Mokka achieved 96 out of 100 percent. This excellent result was helped by frontal, side head and side body curtain air bags as well as double belt pre-tensioners with load limiters. Adjustable head restraints on the front seats help to provide protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. In addition, the Mokka benefits from collapsible pedal assembly (pedal release system) for lower leg protection in a frontal impact.

In child occupant safety, Euro NCAP noted: “The Mokka scored maximum points based on the readings from the 3-year-old child dummy in the dynamics test.” This first-class score in this category is the result of Opel child safety seats that come standard with rear outer ISOFIX child seat mountings and fasteners for an additional top-tether belt.

I also recommend this article  Biodiesel, good or not ?

In the pedestrian safety category, the Mokka’s bumper scored maximum points. Euro NCAP highlighted its “good protection to pedestrians’ legs”.

On the active safety side, which goes beyond Euro NCAP requirements, the Mokka contains many safety assist features. The SUV offers many innovative technologies that help the driver to avoid collisions like the second generation Opel Eye front camera with its functions collision alert, following distance indicator, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.

In addition, its rear view camera and the adaptive forward lighting AFL+ raise the safety standards of the Opel Mokka.

Since its market launch in June, the all-new Mokka has been given a lot of positive media and customer feedback. This is reflected in more than 50,000 orders that have been received since its sales launch. With the Mokka, Opel is the first German manufacturer to enter the rapidly growing segment of sub-compact Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV-B segment).

The Opel Mokka introduces ergonomic seating for the first time to the sub-compact SUV market as well as the integrated FlexFix bike carrier.

A third accolade for New Clio – the 2013 L’argus Trophy

A third accolade for New Clio – the 2013 L##Q##argus Trophy

A third award for New Clio

Renault Clio
Renault Clio

After claiming the RTL/AutoPlus ‘Best Production Car at the Paris Motor Show’ award, then the ‘Golden Steering Wheel’ prize awarded by publications of the Axel Springer media group, New Clio has now won the L##Q##Argus small city car award.

New Clio is the first Renault car to receive a L##Q##Argus Trophy since the creation of the publication##Q##s ##Q##car##Q## awards in 2008.

Prior to New Clio’s success, Renault had been crowned in the utility vehicle class with Master in 2011 and 2004, Trafic in 2002 and Kangoo LCV in 1998.

The jury was composed of vehicle evaluation experts, journalists and market research specialists, and was presided over by the Argus Group##Q##s president, Alexandrine Breton des Loÿs.

All cars that were launched in 2012 were eligible for the awards, and a series of editorial meetings whittled the candidates down to a shortlist of five, with the last vote confirming the winner.

Spotlight on performance/equipment packages and running costs

The chief criteria considered in the bestowing of the Argus Trophies are value for money in terms of equipment packages, running costs (€0.26/km for Clio 1.5 dCi ENERGY Expression 90), residual value (51.2% over three years or 60,000km), fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and user-friendliness.

The secrets of New Clio##Q##s outstanding success

This award by a jury of informed specialists mirrors the favourable reaction that Renault’s new styling identity has received from the public. New Clio is the first model to feature this new identity which is based on the company’s new approach to design.

Amongst its visual characteristics, Renault’s new identity is highlighted by a prominent logo. This exercise in style is apparent in New Clio’s seductive curves and refined lines which talk directly to the senses.

New Clio’s appeal is further accentuated by a range of updated, smaller-capacity engines which have produced fuel consumption savings of as much as 20 percent over their predecessors.

The most CO2-efficient version of the car powered by the new turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol ENERGY TCe 90 consumes just 4.3 litres/100km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 99g/km .

On the diesel side, the fuel consumption of New Clio with the ENERGY dCi 90 eco² engine under the bonnet sets a new frugality record in its class at just 3.2 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of 83g/km, figures comparable with those of significantly more expensive hybrid cars.

I also recommend this article  Aston Martin N400

Meanwhile, thanks to its architecture, longer wheelbase and wider tracks, New Clio’s chassis remains the benchmark in its segment.

And, with a five-star EuroNCAP crash-test rating, it is also the benchmark when it comes to passive safety, having secured the small city car segment##Q##s highest score in three of the four criteria taken into consideration.

Another of Clio’s undeniable qualities is its on-board multimedia system which raises the bar even higher in this vehicle segment.

The in-dash MEDIA NAV system, which incorporates a seven-inch (18cm) touchscreen display, is standard equipment for 80 percent of available versions. It can also be specified with a 4x20W audio system complete with Renault##Q##s Bass Reflex System and comprehensive connectivity (Bluetooth®, USB and jack) in order to enjoy music stored on portable devices.

2012 Mustang Boss® 302 Laguna Seca

2012 Mustang Boss® 302 Laguna Seca: Best of the Best Honoree

Congratulations to the 2012 Mustang Boss® Laguna Seca for being named among the Best of the Best 2012: Coupes and GTs by the Robb Report.

Born in 1969, the Mustang Boss 302 was originally developed by Ford to rival its Chevrolet competition and compete in the Trans-Am series.

Its second generation, in 2012, marked major revisions including powerful engine choices, a responsive 6-speed transmission and tailored interior options.

The 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca was upgraded even further. Additions like optional RECARO® racing seats, TORSEN® helical differential and front-air splitter make it the ultimate purpose-built track Mustang.

According to Robert Ross of the Robb Report, “In an age of paddle-shift automatics, button-controlled suspension modes, shift-mapping software, and driver-tuned exhausts, the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca is a welcome throwback to the get-in-and-drive days of its progenitor.

The LED fascias’ vocation is to be noticed and announce the evolution of a new stylistic era. The angularity of the design completes the futurist and elegant look provided by the LED technology.

With sophisticated interior and exterior innovations, this creation hails to become the expression of SEAT’s identity in the future.

Enter a cruising ship, controlled by amazingly integrated panel boards. A highly flattering driving position is highlighted by a dynamic steering wheel design.

The calm and comfort provided by the interior are only equalled by the level of performance of the car.

The white board platform, enhanced by a glimpse of red-sewed audacity, completes a selection of noble materials.

Seriously self-assumed lines, generously delicate design; sportiness and fine look: the SEAT IBL concept car drives on the playgrounds of elegance and character.

IBL is all about emotion. Love at first sight. But this first impression is something that is meant to last thanks to its timeless elegant design,” says Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, the Head of SEAT Design.

This highly-rated sedan will perfectly fit a traditionally exquisite and precious environment whilst being introduced in Germany.

Seat IBX Concept Car

The SEAT IBX concept car represents our vision for an urban sports utility vehicle, combining SEAT’s powerful character and sporty design language with a self-confident look and distinctive proportions. Perfect design requires no decoration, that’s why the vehicle bears no ornamentation.

In its proportions, the IBX is a sports utility vehicle, but in its appearance it is clearly a sports coupé.

The IBX has plenty of interior space, yet it remains agile and compact enough for urban streets and parking spaces.

This plug-in hybrid offers sustainable mobility. It is charged from a domestic power point and, with its electric range of 50 kilometres, can easily cover most everyday journeys, with zero local emissions.

Yet personal freedom is guaranteed, courtesy of the internal combustion engine. And of course, the IBX is equipped with all the efficiency technologies from the ECOMOTIVE program.

Says SEAT Chief Designer Luc Donckerwolke: “We are proving that with our design, our sporty pedigree and our youthful character, we can also create a vehicle concept that is unique among SUVs.”

2013 Honda Civic – 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

The 2013 model year is just getting under way, and it##Q##s already time to start taking a look at what the automakers have in store for 2014. Dozens of new cars and concept cars were revealed at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28 and 29 – as demonstrated by our comprehensive coverage below – and the debuts will continue through April at the Detroit, Chicago and New York Auto Shows.

2013 Honda Civic
When the ninth-generation Honda Civic was introduced for the 2012 model year, not everyone was impressed. But we liked the car overall and felt the criticism got a bit overblown. Honda took swift action, though, giving the Civic a comprehensive makeover in time for just its second model year. The refreshed Civic is set to go on sale in time with its LA Auto Show debut.

5 Tips To Modify Your Car Insurance’s Premium Payment

5 Tips To Modify Your Car Insurance’s Premium Payment

A car doesn’t come for cheap…
Not only are you required to pay for the premium price tag that the vehicle comes with along with the EMIs on the car loan, you will also need to pay the monthly or annual premium for the car insurance.

In case you are planning to bunk getting a car insurance done in the first place, you must know that the same is considered illegal by the federal government. You will be attracting fines if you are caught without vehicle insurance for your car.

This is why it is important that you know how to reduce the premium payment for your car’s insurance in order to contain the financial burden. Here are 5 tips for the same:

1. Bunk The Collision Coverage

In case you are the owner of a vehicle that is aged and also has been paid for, you must consider dropping the clause of collision average from your car insurance contract. The collision coverage usually covers the damages that your car undergoes due to your own negligence.

I also recommend this article  5 Tips To Modify Your Car Insurance’s Premium Payment

2. Agglomerate All Your Insurances

Using only one insurance agency for all the insurance needs of your family, health, car, home, medical, et al. will give you a substantial discount on the premium payment. The best thing about this discount is that by this way you will not only be saving money from your car insurance’s premium payment but also from the premium payment of all other insurances. Expect a discount till up to 10% if you agglomerate them all.

3. Pump Up The Deductible

The deductible is the basic amount that you need to shell out on a pertinent repair or expenditure of the vehicle before your car insurance company starts paying you for the expenses. In short, it is the triggering point for the car insurance claim.

It is recommended that you increase the deductible limit of the car insurance in order to get a benefit with the premium payment that you need to make. Remember that it is better to pay the small bills from your own pocket and keep the big ones for the insurance company.

4. Drive Your Car Less

It is simple. The lesser you drive; the lesser is the chance that you will be involved in an accident. The lesser your chances of being in an accident, the lesser is the probability that your insurance company will have to pay for the damages. This is why it is beneficial if you are an infrequent driver who drives less. Inform your insurance company about the same and they will give you a relaxed premium payment plan.

5. Drive Carefully

Well, this aspect of the car insurance is self-explanatory. If you are a proven safe driver who has a clean record when it comes to accidents, you will be enjoying a discount on the premium that you need to pay.

Remember that add on modifications affect car insurance and the subsequent premium payment that you need to cough up.

Euro NCAP testing the safety of business and family vans

Euro NCAP testing the safety of business and family vans

In the tests, the Ford Transit Custom was the only vehicle to score five stars. The Hyundai H1 scored three stars.

The Fiat Scudo also scored three stars while the Renault Trafic scored two stars. Some of these vehicles are also rebadged and sold by other manufacturers.

The Fiat Scudo is available as the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy.

The Renault Trafic also sells as the Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro and Nissan Primastar. Watch the video.

Dr Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP, said: “This time around Euro NCAP has focused on van variants that offer 8 to 9 seats.

These vehicles are often used for business or considered by families as alternatives to large MPVs. Being derived from commercial van platforms, these people-carriers are updated less regularly and are generally less equipped for safety than normal passenger cars.

If you have a family with a lot of kids and are tempted to buy such a vehicle, please be aware that they often do not offer the latest state of the art in vehicle safety.

I also recommend this article  Why You Need Car Insurance

Some manufacturers are responding to Euro NCAP’s call and have committed to better equip light commercial vehicles when sold as family cars. The Ford Transit Custom, designed with Euro NCAP’s protocol in mind, features amongst other items curtain airbags that improve protection in the severe pole side impact test.
The vehicle also received recognition in Euro NCAP’s Advanced rewards scheme for offering Lane Keep Assist, an important accident prevention technology, as an option to customers.

Fiat has also responded to Euro NCAP’s assessment. The manufacturer is making safety features such as the front passenger airbag and a Speed Limitation Device standard in more European markets. The Scudo’s Peugeot and Citroën sister models are doing the same.

We are optimistic that the safety of these vehicles will advance significantly in the next few years,” said van Ratingen.

By and large this is a neglected vehicle category that from a safety perspective is still immature. Per legislation, these vehicles have never had to be well-equipped with safety technologies. Not all offer electronic stability control as standard and most provide poor protection for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians in the event of a collision.

The protocols used by Euro NCAP to test family and business vans are slightly adapted from those used for passenger cars.

The car safety organisation has designed its protocol to encourage greater fitment of safety equipment and to promote all-round protection to car occupants and other road users.

Euro NCAP has crash tested some of Europe##Q##s best-selling business and family vans using protocols that are more true-to-life than the current legal tests for these van-based vehicles.

The safety organisation is calling on manufacturers to offer these vehicles with higher levels of safety equipment and for legislators to review their lenient legal safety requirements.

Lincoln Announces Its New 2013 Campaign: Introducing the Lincoln Motor Company

Lincoln Announces Its New 2013 Campaign: Introducing the Lincoln Motor Company

Lincoln, the luxury automotive brand, today announced the launch of its new advertising campaign: “Introducing the Lincoln Motor Company.”

Lincoln was originally called the Lincoln Motor Company in 1922, when Edsel Ford signed the agreement purchasing the company from its founder Henry Leland.

During its early years, Edsel worked with numerous custom-body suppliers to make Lincoln one of the most distinctive luxury brands in the industry, with motorcars that were urbane, sleek and elegant – the epitome of understated luxury.

By reintroducing “The Lincoln Motor Company,” the campaign captures the founding principles of the company and brings them forward to a new generation of progressive luxury buyers.

“Befitting this new chapter in the life of Lincoln we are making a complete new start in every aspect of consumer communication to emotionally welcome our new target customer into our brand,” said Matt VanDyke, Director of Global Lincoln Brand. “It’s not often this opportunity comes around so we intend to make the most of it and have our work in every medium be as fresh, surprising and distinctive as the new Lincoln vehicles and customer experiences will be.”

The new campaign features the all-new MKZ premium midsize sedan and MKZ Hybrid, the first transformational vehicles for the new Lincoln brand. They will be arriving in dealerships by the end of the month.

I also recommend this article  5 Tips To Modify Your Car Insurance’s Premium Payment

The Introducing the Lincoln Motor Company theme will be carried across print, broadcast, digital media and Lincoln’s own online platforms starting Dec. 3.

The first print ads will break in major national newspapers and online media on Dec. 3 as well. National print ads will appear in January 2013 issues of select business and consumer lifestyle magazines.

New Print Advertising
The newspaper print announcement features two all-type treatments. The first begins with the provocation, “Does the World Need Another Luxury Car?” debuting on Dec. 3, followed by “Hello.

Again” debuting on Dec. 10. Both emphasize the values that once made Lincoln the leader in luxury automobiles and how these same values will be the key to its future development. These ads feature no images. A white, minimalist page with black typeface emphasizes simplicity in design.

The magazine print campaign offers an introduction to the brand and its focus on individuality. Each ad features a group of people who, at first glance, could easily be categorized, but who Lincoln recognizes as unique individuals in their own right. This campaign launches the all-new Lincoln MKZ midsize premium sedan.

Television
The new television campaign weaves together examples of Lincoln’s past with those highlighting present design innovation.

The spots evoke what has historically made Lincoln stand apart in the luxury category, while using the new MKZ as the face of the reinvented brand. There are a number of quick-cutting, artfully composed images that continue to add visual interest over multiple viewings.

New Digital Communications
A redesign of Lincoln.com, LincolnNow.com, and a brand-new app for Lincoln, Experience Lincoln, will become the portals through which a new generation can experience the grace and elegance of Lincoln’s legacy and its link to the excitement of the all-new MKZ.

Through Parallax layering, an elegant display will have continual running video, dynamic movement, and full-screen video and photos that allow one to experience the vehicle in an immersive way.

New Catalogs
The new catalogs feature contemporary, lush photography of the all-new MKZ. But a unique element has been added to provide a richer and more immersive experience.

Using the new Lincoln app on a mobile device focused on the image (rather than a code or tag), the user can access iconic past Lincoln ads reimagined in a fresh new way, and even scroll back and forth between the two.

New Ford Kuga ffers Class-Leading Tech, Drive, Fuel Efficiency and Safety; Smarter SUV Leads European Lineup Expansion

New Ford Kuga Offers Class-Leading Tech, Drive, Fuel Efficiency and Safety; Smarter SUV Leads European Lineup Expansion

The all-new Ford Kuga debuting in Europe is set to shatter the myth that an SUV can’t be green, high-tech, capable and exceptional all at once.

The new Kuga is the centrepiece of Ford’s strategy to expand in the fast-growing European SUV market and offers a surprising array of features and technologies, including:

• Ford’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, including exclusive Curve Control
• Segment first hands-free lift gate that operates with a gentle kicking motion
• Class-leading fuel efficiency, including optional EcoBoost petrol engine
Ford SYNC with Emergency Assist.
“European customers have really taken the current Kuga to their hearts,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president, Product Development. “The new Kuga retains that charisma and adds remarkable new technologies, features and capability.”
Ford’s new Kuga mid-size SUV delivers class-leading technology, fuel efficiency, safety, drive and comfort
• New Kuga offers segment-first hands-free tailgate. European debuts of Ford’s global intelligent all-wheel drive system and Curve Control, and introduction of enhanced Torque Vectoring Control, help deliver best-in-class handling
• All new Kuga powertrains offer significant fuel efficiency improvements; reduce petrol fuel consumption by 25 per cent and diesel fuel consumption by 10 per cent; EcoBoost petrol engines now available
• Euro NCAP five-star safety-rated new Kuga offers Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance and Active City Stop
• New Kuga offers more luggage compartment space, rear seats that fold flat in one movement, and a quieter cabin
• New Kuga is first step of Ford’s commitment to leverage global leadership to deliver expanded European lineup

Ford Kuga
Ford Kuga

Ford plans to leverage its global leadership in SUVs to deliver a comprehensive lineup of smarter vehicles to Europe. New Kuga will be followed by the modern and innovative EcoSport, Ford’s entry into the small SUV segment, and the Edge – a larger, more premium crossover that is a success in North America and other markets.

Ford has said it expects to sell more than one million SUVs in Europe in the next six years with SUVs accounting for 10 per cent of all Fords sold in the region by 2016.

Since launching the first generation Kuga in Europe in 2008, Ford has sold more than 300,000.

Production of the new Kuga started this month at Ford’s assembly plant in Valencia, Spain. Just six months after going on sale, the new Kuga’s North American counterpart the Ford Escape, has achieved its best ever sales year.

Ford’s unrivalled heritage uniquely positions it to offer a smarter SUV range that taps into the increasing demand for utility vehicles from our European customers,” added Samardzich.

I also recommend this article  One Europe, One Driving Licence

Class-leading driving ability

The smart AWD system pre-emptively reassesses conditions 20 times faster than it takes to blink an eye, readjusting the AWD power split to give the driver the best blend of handling and traction.

The primary goal of the AWD system at low speeds is traction; at speeds above 30 km/h the AWD system is tuned to improve driving feel, handling and responses. A unique cluster display shows drivers the torque demand of each wheel at any moment.

Ford Curve Control acts as a safeguard for drivers who have entered a bend with too much speed. The system mitigates against severe understeer by aggressive braking and can, if the driver is still pushing their foot down on the accelerator, also reduce engine torque.

Curve Control can support drivers if they find themselves in a situation where they are travelling too fast for the road conditions or layout,” said Michael Nentwig, assistant chief programme engineer, C Cars, Ford of Europe. “The obvious example is on a curved slip road coming off a motorway. If the driver hasn’t reduced speed sufficiently this system can step in and safely slow the vehicle down by around 16 km/h per second.

Dynamics and cornering control are improved by the introduction of the enhanced Torque Vectoring Control system developed with the Focus RS. This helps to deliver Ford’s fun-to-drive DNA by applying a small amount of braking to inside wheels to assist drivers through fast bends.

Innovation inside and out

Stylish new Kuga offers space for more luggage than the current car and a luggage compartment that can be accessed more easily. Ford’s hands-free tailgate can be opened or closed simply by a kicking motion beneath the rear bumper to either open or close the powered tailgate; and new Kuga offers 46-litres more luggage compartment-space than the current model, while the rear seats fold flat in one movement.

The volume of road noise and wind noise audible has been significantly reduced compared with current Kuga to help deliver one of the quietest cabins in the segment. Improvements were delivered following the innovative use of elliptical acoustic mirrors to measure exterior elements that can influence the noise and vibration inside the car.

From the initial design, new Kuga was engineered to be as visually appealing up close as it is from a distance with spaces between panels no wider than 0.5mm. The craftsmanship inside emphasises feel and touch through use of a soft instrument panel and soft door upper roll. Particular attention was paid to deleting exposed fasteners on moving parts like tailgate, sun visors and glove box. New Kuga also features an openable panorama roof

We’ve evolved the vehicle to incorporate more space and a faster silhouette, a more precise execution and a higher quality feel,” said Martin Smith, executive design director, Ford of Europe.

I also recommend this article  Biodiesel, good or not ?

All-new Ford Kuga will launch with a global colour called Ginger Ale, a subtle green hue to reflect its active outdoor capabilities, with rich, sophisticated tones to harmonise with the slick urban environment where many models will find a home. Sterling Grey will also be a launch colour in Europe.

Class-leading fuel economy

New Kuga will deliver class-leading fuel economy through significantly improved fuel efficiency from a powertrain lineup that, for the first time, includes EcoBoost engine technology. Petrol engine fuel consumption has been reduced by 25 per cent and diesel engine fuel consumption by 10 per cent.

New Kuga offers a 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine available as a 150 PS front-wheel drive that achieves from 6.6 l/100 km and 154 g/km CO2; and a 182 PS AWD version that achieves from 7.7 l/100 km and 179 g/km.CO2.*

It also offers a 2.0-litre TDCi Duratorq diesel engine available with 140 PS in front-wheel drive and AWD versions offering from 5.3 l/100 km and 139 g/km CO2; and a 163 PS version that achieves from 5.9 l/100 km and 154 g/km CO2.

Ford’s low emission ECOnetic Technology features available across the lineup include Eco Mode, Gear Shift Indicator and Active Grille Shutter that reduces drag and cuts fuel consumption. AWD models will be available with automatic transmissions

Engineered for outstanding safety

New Kuga was awarded a maximum five-star rating by Euro NCAP after achieving an overall protection score of 88 per cent, the highest-ever for a mid-sized SUV.

The independent vehicle safety organisation awarded new Kuga an Advanced reward for Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance. Upon detecting airbag deployment or activation of the emergency fuel shut-off within the car, Emergency Assistance uses the on-board GPS locator and Bluetooth-paired device to set up an emergency call and provide GPS co-ordinates, in the local language.

Further driver assistance technologies offered with new Kuga include Active Park Assist, Blind Spot Information System, Active City Stop, Lane Keeping Aid, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam, Driver Alert and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Ford engineers used ultra-high strength steels in the body structure of the new Kuga and a specially designed ring reinforcement around the panoramic roof to ensure rigidity and strength. New Kuga also offers Roll Stability Control and Trailer Sway Control.

This is the most technology we have ever offered with a Ford car in Europe” said Michael Nentwig, assistant chief programme engineer, C Cars, Ford of Europe. “This helps new Kuga become a better car right across the board – and delivers a smarter SUV”.

Prices for the new Kuga in Europe will be released soon with customers able to place orders before the end of the year.

2013 Ford Flex Featured in Video Series Defining Suburban Driving

2013 Ford Flex Featured in Video Series Defining Suburban Driving

What do the terms Flex Factor, Trunk Tetris and Bizzaro Husband have in common? They are all part of the newly penned Suburban Dictionary, featuring the 2013 Ford Flex.

The Suburban Dictionary, authored by bestselling author Christian Lander (Stuff White People Like), is the definitive source for terms that describe the moments and things that only seem to become part of your life after you hit the other side of 30 and ditch the city for suburban life.

Lander, working with Ford, has also produced a series of videos to show you the daily troubles of the average suburban driver. For more information about how the features in a Ford Flex can help you survive life in the suburbs, click here.

“At the heart of the project is gentle poking fun of a generation that never expected to get older,” said Lander. “But while we all lament our bodies not bouncing back from a night out or a carb-laden dinner, we##Q##re also finding out that the aging process isn##Q##t all bad. When I was twenty two, I used to lay on my futon thinking that nothing would be worse than having to live in the suburbs. Now that I##Q##m thirty three, I can##Q##t think of anything worse than having to sleep on a futon.”

In the Suburban Dictionary video series, Lander utilizes the vehicle to battle through the daily tasks of the average suburbanite: going out to dinner on a weekend, packing your car to the brim and more. The one thing that he has up on the competition, however, is the Flex.

The 2013 Ford Flex represents the perfect suburban family vehicle in the video series. It is a seven-passenger kid-hauling machine. It has the style and attitude that parents and drivers who need a large utility but want to make a statement desire. Stacked with available features like active-park assist, MyFord Touch®, navigation and an in-car refrigerator, the Flex fills the needs of every member of the household.

Jeep: Adding Luxury to Serious Off-road Adventuring

Adding Luxury to Serious Off-road Adventuring

People, who love the rugged outdoors and enjoy driving in such terrain, are the ones who adore 4X4 cars, such as the iconic Jeep.

The Jeep is designed to enjoy the thrill of off-road driving on dirt trails, forest paths, muddy pits and sand dunes.

However, besides the off-road adventures, Jeeps are also built for luxury and designed to look beautiful, which puts the vehicle on par with the very best.

History of the Jeep

Jeep has a long history which goes all the way back to World War 2 when a company called the American Bantam Car Company manufactured the first prototype of a Jeep for the Army.

Whilst the design of the prototype suited the criteria laid down by the US Army, its engine specifications did not meet the torque requirements that the Army wanted.

However, then Willys and Fords designed their Jeeps and the long love affair has never stopped from then.

In fact, it was the Willys’ Jeep which made a significant impact during World War 2. Since then the Jeep has come a long way thanks to the constant upgrades and developments in the world of automobiles.

What Makes Jeep Special?

Besides its beautiful and sleek design, there are many advantages to driving a Jeep. One of the reasons why Jeep enthusiasts love this vehicle is because of its functionality and versatility.

This is one of the few 4X4 cars which can be driven with pride in the city and can also tackle some unique terrains where most of the other smaller vehicles and cars cannot go. It is a rugged, durable machine and the Jeep can drive in just about any type of weather such as snow, rain or hail, without causing drivers any anxiety.

I also recommend this article  3 Things to Do When Filing For a Car Insurance Claim

Jeeps are also tough cars that prove to be good investments and offer comfort and sleekness. The competitors are all far more expensive and the Jeep name has a cache all of its own, so it doesn’t have to compete with the upper class connotations of a Range Rover or the extreme road performance of the Porsche Cayenne.

A Class of Its Own

The Jeep has always been in a class of its own with people who love off-road driving.

It’s powerful and the perfect vehicle for this type of driving, from green laning to the extremes of winching.

Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that all Jeep models are test driven at the Rubicon Trail, which is a 22-mile route comprising of rugged 4X4 terrain and road, and located in Sierra Nevada in the USA.

A part of the Rubicon Trail is used by Jeep to test its vehicles to ensure superior off-road travel experience.

With Compass, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee offering the same quality and luxury as many of their luxury rivals, these vehicles are among the very best.

I also recommend this article  Dacia Duster Road Test Review

As Fiat now partner Jeep, several improvements have been made to the latest models to ensure they can hold their ground when it comes to the quality of the fit and finish.

Conclusion

Whether a 4X4 enthusiast chooses a Compass, Wrangler or a Grand Cherokee, the vehicle will allow the adventurous side of the driver to come to the fore. Today, thanks to its performance, comfort levels and finish, the Jeep is there with the very best and can add luxury and comfort to serious off-road adventuring.

However, most car manufacturers now produce 4X4 vehicles so there is a large choice. Land Rover and Range Rover are very much in fashion for those with road- holding as their priority, but there are also the BMW X5 and the Audi Q luxury ranges.

If budget is not an issue then the speedy Porsche Cayenne may be the vehicle for you.

Written by Antony Jackson for Autospeedmarket.com – He has had a fascination with cars from an early age and has followed race and road car developments on 3 continents. Photographing and writing about cars here and abroad, including visits to the Porsche works in Germany, 1000+ mile classic road trips and conversations with retired racing drivers in Las Vegas, his love of cars comes through in his work.

How to Keep Your BMW Running Smoothly

How to Keep Your BMW Running Smoothly

When you invest a lot of money in a luxury car, you want to protect that investment by keeping it running smoothly.

Being proactive and a smart operator of your vehicle will help decrease and delay the need for major repairs.

Follow a few simple tips for keeping your BMW running smoothly, and your beautiful car will stay in pristine condition for as long as possible.

Save With OEM and Aftermarket Parts

Before you read up on how to keep your BMW running smoothly, familiarize yourself with remanufactured BMW parts and other affordable options, because they’re going to be essential for keeping your car fine-tuned without spending a fortune.

• Refurbished and used parts. Taken from cars that had problems with other parts, these are in perfectly useable condition or have been refurbished. Look for reliable sellers with satisfaction guarantees or warranties, and you won’t have to worry about getting a lemon.
OEM (also known as “original equipment manufacturer”) parts. These are brand-new parts made by a third party. BMW licenses these parts, however; they even come with a warranty. Dealerships purchase OEM if you request they do — and you should, because they’re cheaper than BMW parts.
• Aftermarket: Also brand-new, never-before-used parts, only these third-party parts aren’t licensed by BMW. Although you don’t have the guarantee of quality and fitment like you do with OEM, the tradeoff is the lower cost. You will save a significant amount on aftermarket parts.

I also recommend this article  3 Things to Do When Filing For a Car Insurance Claim

Practice Routine Maintenance

Just like going to the doctor even when you don’t feel pain can catch a problem early and save you from more invasive treatments later, routinely maintaining your BMW will keep the “car doctor” away.

Every few months or few thousand miles you should be performing the following maintenance:

• Oil change
• Tire rotation
• Air filter replacement
• Brake fluid check
• Clutch fluid or automatic transmission fluid check
• Shock testing
• Alignment check
• Bushing inspection

Other things, such as brake pads, wear down over time. Of course, any time a service light comes on, get to a mechanic sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the more damage can be done and the more it will cost to repair your vehicle.

Drive Smart

Unnecessary strain can cause your vehicle’s parts to wear down and break far quicker than they would otherwise. There are a number of ways to treat your BMW with kid gloves and keep it from wearing down prematurely, including:

• Avoid frequently braking whenever possible. Country roads and interstate driving require less braking than city driving. However, if city driving can’t be avoided, maintain a distance of two vehicles between you and the car in front of you, so you’re not braking at every little thing between stop signs and lights.
• Accelerate gently. Putting the pedal to the metal might be fun, but it requires a lot more out of your vehicle than a gradual ascent to maximum speed — and it’s a lot more dangerous, too.
• Don’t overload your vehicle. The more junk that clutters your vehicle, the harder it has to work to run. This is especially true of large loads but can also include even smaller amounts.
• Turn off the car whenever possible. Don’t idle for long in drive-through lanes, for instance. Your vehicle works harder to keep itself running than it does to start up.

I also recommend this article  Insurance losses by make and model

Don’t Wait to Upgrade and Repair

You know that if a service light shows you something’s wrong with your car, it’s important to get to a mechanic as soon as possible.

Think the same for any upgrades that interest you. For example, if you hear that a particular part wears out after a few thousand miles on your model and that there’s a replacement part that could last longer, don’t wait until your part busts. Upgrade now, so your luxury vehicle runs as smoothly as possible.

With your secondhand, OEM and aftermarket options, it will cost significantly less to upgrade and repair, so you have little excuse to delay doing so.

Renault Tech to reveal Grand Kangoo and Dokker TPMR at ‘Autonomic Méditerranée’ show

Renault Tech to reveal Grand Kangoo and Dokker TPMR at ‘Autonomic Méditerranée’ show

Renault Tech is a division of Renault Sport Technologies and has been designing, manufacturing and marketing vehicles for the transport of persons with reduced mobility for more than 25 years.

It will take advantage of its presence at the Autonomic Méditerranée show (December 6-7) in Marseilles, France, to reveal two additions to its existing range of vehicles, namely Grand Kangoo TPMR and Dokker TPMR (TPMR = ‘Transport de Personnes à Mobilité Réduite’ / ‘Transport of Persons with Reduced Mobility’).

Grand Kangoo Ergo ramp®: extra passenger carrying capacity

• Renault will have a stand (Hall 1, Gate C) at the Autonomic Méditerranée show in Marseilles, France, on December 6-7.

• This exhibition will provide Renault Tech with an opportunity to give two new vehicles their first public airing, namely Renault Grand Kangoo TPMR (Ergo ramp®) and Dacia Dokker TPMR.

• In addition to its range of transfer assist and driving aid solutions, these two new models take the European leader’s range to five vehicles which represent total annual sales of 1,000 vehicles, all of which are made in Heudebouville, France.

I also recommend this article  Why You Need Car Insurance

This new conversion is based on Grand Kangoo, the lengthened version of Renault’s celebrated ‘ludospace’ which was introduced last September. This vehicle chiefly targets professional road-users such as taxi-drivers, airport shuttle companies and public transport operators, etc. and comfortably carries up to six people (five seated, plus one passenger in a wheelchair).

Grand Kangoo TPMR, known as Ergo ramp®, will go on sale when the Autonomic Méditerranée show opens, initially in France, and then in numerous European countries (prices will be announced at the show). Just one version will be available, but it will be possible to choose from a long list of options to adapt the vehicle to individual requirements.

This conversion is particularly innovative and a patent has been filed for the mechanism of its access ramp which is extremely simple and effortless to operate. Furthermore, when fully retracted, it provides an entirely flat floor so that users can continue to benefit from Grand Kangoo’s hallmark modularity.

Dokker TPMR – a true Dacia: straightforward and robust

In keeping with its Dacia heritage, Dokker TPMR is both straightforward and robust. This conversion targets persons with reduced mobility who use a wheelchair. Three versions are available and permit the transport of up to five fully-abled passengers and one person in a wheelchair.

Depending on version, a choice of two or three equipment levels is available, as well as numerous options to allow customers to match the specification of their vehicle to their particular needs.

Renault Tech committed a significant research and development budget to the design of this conversion. For example:

– The lowered floor is made from a composite material which not only saves weight but is also more durable and uses fewer component parts.

– The ramp’s aluminium honeycomb structure saves further weight yet supports a load of up to 300kg (one person with reduced mobility plus accompanying person).

Dokker TPMR will be available in France, Europe, Turkey and Morocco from end-March 2013. Prices will be published closer to this time.

World Premiere of All-new Fiat 500L Trekking and North American Debut of All-new FIAT 500L Expand the FIAT Brand’s Product Lineup and its Commitment to Innovative Cars

2014 Fiat 500L Lounge
2014 Fiat 500L Lounge

Expanding on the style, efficiency and driving enjoyment that has made the Fiat 500 an icon for more than 55 years, the all-new 2014 Fiat 500L expands the Cinquecento’s appeal by offering more than 42 percent more interior space with spacious seating for five, engaging driving dynamics, a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine with a best-in-class 160 horsepower and two six-speed transmission offerings all wrapped in contemporary Italian design.

“The all-new Fiat 500L the reach of the FIAT brand in North America and will keep our customers within the brand as their lifestyle needs expand,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of FIAT Brand North America — Chrysler Group LLC. “Those who love the style and performance that only the Italians can create, can now enjoy space for five, functionality, practicality and value. The Fiat 500L is the whole package, and it now brings its unique flavor to the American market.”

Since the modern Fiat 500’s global launch in 2007, more than 1 million of these efficient and city-friendly vehicles have been sold in 110 countries worldwide. And now with the all-new Fiat 500L, the Cinquecento has grown up to accommodate even more of life’s greatest experiences and emotions all together: children, friends, journeys, music and community.

The Fiat 500L delivers a new approach to the way a car expresses styling individuality, the way it communicates with the outside world and opens its doors to a new on-board experience. The letter ‘L’ sums up the six dimensions of the Fiat 500L: “Leveraging,” the FIAT brand’s approach to its iconic Cinquecento design DNA; “Large,” meant as functionality and space via its new “small-wide” vehicle architecture; “Loft,” a trendsetting environment where one can live life to the fullest behind segment-exclusive panoramic views and the segment’s largest dual-pane sunroof (20.7 sq.ft. (1.92 m2) dual-pane glass system); “Lifestyle,” four unique models including the all-new Fiat 500L Trekking that perfectly blends rugged styling and versatility for a Cinquecento that complements customers with a highly active lifestyle; and “Light,” when ‘lightness’ means human- and eco-friendly technology.

Paired with its tight European handling and quick steering, the sixth dimension, “Liters” defines the fuel-efficient MultiAir Turbo engine in the all-new Fiat 500L, providing the highest output-per-liter and best-in-class standard horsepower (160 hp) and torque (184 lb.-ft.) in the segment. For even more driver precision and control, the Fiat 500L features a six-speed manual transmission, or segment-exclusive six-speed dual dry clutch transmission (DDCT).

All-new Fiat 500L Trekking: the adventurous side of the 500L

The premiere of the 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking expands the appeal and practicality of the Fiat 500L with distinct, rugged looks; an athletic two-tone interior environment; unique front and rear fascia designs, flared wheel arches and larger 17-inch wheels to support its adventurous personality.

“From Gucci to Abarth, our Fiat 500 and now all-new Fiat 500L illustrate the different personalities and capabilities the FIAT brand can deliver from the same basic sheet metal,” said Tim Kuniskis. “And with the rugged personality of the Trekking, we will attract a wider cross section of customers while keeping intact all the great benefits of the Fiat 500L.”

Making the all-new 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking distinct is the addition of aggressively styled front and rear fascias with Nero (black) accents for a bolder look. Unique Nero wheel arch and body-side sill moldings give the Fiat 500L Trekking a more adventurous look, while larger 17 x 7-inch aluminum wheels hint at the urban-utility vehicle’s handling capabilities.

A unique two-tone Nero/Marrone (black/brown) interior environment continues the Fiat 500L Trekking’s rugged-athletic theme. At the center of it all, an all-new Uconnect 5.0 system features a 5-inch intelligently and intuitively designed touchscreen interface, handsfree calling and Bluetooth-streaming audio, as well as voice-command control of the radio and a media hub for seamless integration of portable devices. For even more capability, the Fiat 500L Trekking can be had with the premium Uconnect 6.5 system with its larger 6.5-inch touchscreen radio, with dealer-activated navigation with intuitive map graphics and a premium media hub with SD card reader.

The all-new 2014 Fiat 500L and all-new Fiat 500L Trekking models are produced at FIAT Automobiles’ manufacturing plant in Kragujevac, Serbia, and will arrive to FIAT Studios in North America in mid-2013.

2014 Fiat 500L – Safety

At FIAT brand, safety has always been a priority, and this objective has enabled the all-new 2014 Fiat 500L to integrate advanced safety technology that affords the level of driving confidence today’s thoughtful consumer demands. Seven standard air bags and reactive head restraints

The all-new 2014 Fiat 500L features an all-new air bag system to offer unique protection for its passengers to meet all U.S. regulatory requirements. Its seven standard air bags include: driver and front-passenger advanced multistage air bags, driver’s knee air bag, full-length side-curtain air bags and standard seat-mounted side pelvic-thorax air bags, all to offer enhanced occupant protection in the event of a collision.

Reactive head restraints, which activate during a rear impact, are another innovation helping minimize injuries by reducing the gap between the head restraint and the passenger’s head.

Electronic stability control (ESC)
The Fiat 500L features standard electronic stability control (ESC) for improved braking performance in wet or panic conditions.

Behind the scenes, the ESC system is ready to intervene by integrating key chassis control systems, including electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), anti-lock brake system (ABS) and traction control systems (TCS) to control all four wheels in response to yaw and steering input.

I also recommend this article  Insurance losses by make and model

In effect, ESC determines the driver’s intentions and adjusts the vehicle’s dynamic forces to maintain the driver’s intended course. Should the driver exceed the performance limits of the road surface — such that the vehicle starts to oversteer or understeer — ESC instantly analyzes input from the wheel sensors and corrects the pending loss of control by applying any one, several or all of the system’s brakes.

ParkView rear backup camera
Providing a wide-angle view of the area immediately behind the vehicle through the Fiat 500L’s all-new Uconnect 5.0 or 6.5 radio, ParkView gives the driver greater peace of mind before backing up. The image is automatically displayed on the touchscreen when the transmission is shifted into Reverse and provides gridlines to help the driver gauge distances.

2014 FIAT 500L: Technology

All-new Uconnect 5.0 and 6.5
The all-new FIAT 500L uniquely showcases Uconnect’s distinctive handling of in-vehicle handsfree communication, entertainment and navigation.

The all-new Uconnect 5.0 system features a 5-inch touchscreen that enables handsfree calling via Bluetooth-equipped phones, as well as voice-command control of AM/FM and optional SiriusXM Radio. Compatible smartphones equipped with Bluetooth and Message Access Profile (MAP) can receive text messages. The system announces receipt of the message, identifies the sender and then “reads” the message aloud.

In addition, digital music can be streamed wirelessly from compatible Bluetooth smartphones or audio players supported by a media hub equipped with auxiliary jack and USB that enables recharging and seamless operation of portable devices. An integrated CD player offers additional media flexibility.

Upping the ante is the available Uconnect 6.5 model with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, voice operation of AM/FM and standard satellite radio, mobile phones and dealer-activated navigation with intuitive map graphics. Additional features include handsfree calling and audio streaming via compatible Bluetooth-enabled phones, text-message reader, personalization settings and a premium media hub with SD card reader. Both Uconnect 5.0 and 6.5 systems are available with optional Parkview rear backup camera.

eco:Drive app helps improve driving efficiency
The all-new 2014 500L offers FIAT brand’s state-of-the-art eco:Drive app, demonstrating that an automaker’s environmental responsibility should extend beyond the production line and into the actual way customers drive their cars.

Included on Uconnect 5.0, eco:Drive app collects all necessary data relating to vehicle efficiency and transmits it to the 5-inch touchscreen so drivers can view the information real time. The information also can be transmitted through the USB port to any USB memory stick. Plug the stick into a personal computer and the app details vehicle performance, such as per trip CO2 emission levels. In addition, eco:Drive analyzes the driver’s style and provides recommendations on how to modify his or her driving style to help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Originated in Europe, today there are more than 80,000 eco:Drive users worldwide. The eco:Drive app has encouraged drivers to set challenges – CO2 reduction targets for specific journeys or over a set period of time. And as part of a global “eco:Ville” community, the system encourages all drivers to come together and pool their fuel and emissions savings to illustrate how individual contributions help the greater good.

Following the launch of the Beats by Dr. Dre audio system in the 2013 Fiat 500, the all-new 2014 Fiat 500L also offers its passengers a music experience the way the artist intended. The Beats Audio studio-quality sound system includes six premium speakers, an 8-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and 8-channel amplifier with Beats Audio digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

2014 Fiat 500L – Design

With its recognizable Cinquecento exterior design features, the all-new 2014 Fiat 500L provides even more space, utility and comfort, while offering a natural and coherent product extension in FIAT Studios.

With recognizable Fiat 500 physiognomy — its signature “whiskers and logo” face — plus an additional 6.1 inches (15.5 cm) in width, the all-new Fiat 500L has even more presence while exuding the FIAT family resemblance in stylistic harmony. Larger bi-halogen projector headlamps and lower park lamps tie in the iconic look, while the vehicle’s front fascia, body-color fascia insert and cooling duct continue the FIAT brand’s facial feature resemblance. Providing fresh air for the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine’s intercooler, the Fiat 500L’s front fascia grille features a honeycomb lower grille texture with available road-brightening fog lamps.

Because Fiat 500 models have always focused on maximizing the scenic views each journey provides, the all-new Fiat 500L goes one step further to deliver panoramic views from within. Illustrating purposeful Italian design, the Fiat 500L features segment-exclusive glass A- and D-pillars for an interior environment nearly encapsulated by 360 degree views. For a sporty appearance, the belt- and window-molding surrounds are trimmed in Nero (black). In addition to a monotone look, the new five-passenger Cinquecento offers even more style, with its “floating” roof painted in Nero or Bianco (white). The Fiat 500L also offers the segment’s largest sunroof, providing first and second-row passengers with cityscape views through a 20.7 sq.ft. (1.92 m2) dual-pane glass system.

The 2014 Fiat 500L’s silhouette is 26.9 inches (68.3 cm) longer yet features the familiar forward-sloping A-line and adds a cab-forward approach for improved visibility and an even more dynamic look. Similar to the historic and modern Cinquecento, the Fiat 500L’s body-side lateral section features clean surfaces, flared wheel arches and chromed door handles. For added style and protection, body-side door moldings are painted in body color and are available with chrome accents. Filling the wheel wells are seven unique wheel designs ranging from 16 inches to a sporty 17 inches with the 500 logo on the center caps. For familiar Cinquecento character, the chromed-accented headlamps with “500” logo and taillamps are visible from the side profile, thanks to the way the Fiat 500L’s rounded sides link up to the front and rear.

I also recommend this article  Aston Martin N400

Maintaining its city-friendly proportions, the all-new Fiat 500L’s rear fascia and bumper are well-integrated into the design of the five-door for shorter overhangs and a tidy look. Providing easier cargo loading, the Fiat 500L’s liftgate design features one of the segment’s lowest cargo-lift heights (26.2 inches (66.5 cm) from ground). For simplistic design character, the lower-liftgate area is recessed to accommodate a license plate, while the adjacent fascia integrates left and right side reflectors. Finishing off the rear are square-in-circular taillamps and a prominent FIAT liftgate badge with “500L” logo beneath.

Loft: style, comfort and panoramic views
Like a loft that provides a contemporary, wide, open and luminous dimension, the interior of the all-new Fiat 500L offers 42 percent more interior space than the 500 hatchback for added capability, plus even more style and comfort for up to five passengers and their belongings.

Like the FIAT 500, the Fiat 500L embraces a particular stylistic and constructive interpretation that strives for simplified enjoyment. Careful analysis of the interior space affords the all-new five-passenger model with an airy and roomy passenger compartment designed to be comfortable and enjoyable for any destination.

With segment-exclusive glass A- and D-pillars for nearly 360 degree views, the Fiat 500L provides the most outward visibility in its class. To maximize passenger visibility, the Fiat 500L features elevated second-row seats and an available dual-glass panel sunroof.

Like a well-designed loft, the focal point of the Fiat 500L is its instrument panel, which continues the Cinquecento’s perfect blend of modern simplicity, iconic Italian styling and numerous personalization options. Expanding on the Fiat 500, the Fiat 500L’s upper instrument panel is designed to convey a sense of refinement, elegance and fun with the availability of color-matched exterior accents and premium vinyl-wrapped or painted accents. A thick-rimmed three-spoke FIAT steering wheel is available in leather and two-tone color options and features the square-in-circular design cue. Behind, two large analog gauges provide vehicle and engine speed, while two secondary gauges provide fuel and engine temperature information.

The instrument cluster also includes an Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) to provide the driver with trip, vehicle and Uconnect system information. At the center, the Fiat 500L is available with the all-new Uconnect 5.0 or 6.5 radio system, providing passengers with information and connectivity options on a 5-inch or larger 6.5-inch touchscreen. On the passenger side, a recessed instrument panel cubby and covered glove box provide quick storage access. Designed to be ergonomic, the Fiat 500L’s climate control and transmission shifter are easy to reach from the available center armrest. The lower instrument panel and center console highlight the Fiat 500L’s space utilization with large- and small-sized storage spaces to keep mobile devices at a convenient reach.

Continuing the family resemblance, the 2014 Fiat 500L is available with seven fabric and two leather interior choices, paired with 64 internal/external design combinations across its models range. The Fiat 500L model lineup is inspired by four distinct spirits: young, dynamic and cool for the Fiat 500L Pop model; comfortable, practical and bright for the Fiat 500L Easy model; rugged and athletic for the Fiat 500L Trekking model; and elegant, sophisticated and contemporary for the Fiat 500L Lounge model.

Ensuring passengers are surrounded by premium materials that deliver a sensorial experience, Centro Stile’s Color & Material Group specifically carried out studies to define which materials and colors the Fiat 500L product range would include. The group’s research redefined technologies and production processes to further increase the quality level and value of the physical, tactile and visual properties of the materials, details and finishes to be applied.

All-new Fiat 500L Trekking: blending rugged style with utility
Designed for customers with a highly active lifestyle, the Fiat 500L Trekking model offers the perfect blend of rugged styling and versatility to match their needs. For a more aggressive look, a restyled front fascia features a bolder Nero-accented design graphic with large lower opening, fog lamps and adjacent “nostril” type air openings at the corners.

Above, the cooling duct has been enlarged for a more aggressive appearance, while the familiar “whiskers” and unique lower front fascia accent are finished in satin silver. Connecting the front and rear fascias are Nero wheel-arch and body-side sill moldings that provide this Fiat 500L with a more distinct look. The rear fascia continues the bold Nero design graphic plus the addition of a satin silver lower fascia accent for added style. Emphasizing the width of this Cinquecento, the horizontal recessed license plate area and rear fascia’s lower left and right side reflectors are finished in Nero.

Inside, the Fiat 500L Trekking features a unique two-tone Nero/Marrone (black/brown) interior environment that is carried through on its leather-wrapped steering wheel, door and door-panel armrest bolsters, seat fabric and floor mats.

Auto Restoration: What You Should Know Before Buying

Auto Restoration: What You Should Know Before Buying

Auto Restoration
Auto Restoration

If you are considering taking on a restoration project, then there are likely a hundred questions or more turning around in your head.

Before you buy, you might want to consider what type of car you are in the market for and how much of a project you can really afford to take on.

Consider these bits of advice as you consider your own purchase.

Maximizing Resale Value

Maintaining the original look and feel of a car is the very best way to ensure the resale value is kept at a maximum. While it can be fun and enjoyable to outfit an old car with modern conveniences, you must remember that those who are in the market for a classic car are looking for something that reminds them of yesteryear.

You must also be aware of what sells and what doesn’t, if you hope to turn any sort of profit on your restoration project. Hot rods are a popular choice among car restoration enthusiasts because they are cool and fun. Using quality custom car paint on hot rods can make a difference in the appearance and resale value of the finished restoration project.

Still, for some reason, hot rods just don’t seem to sell as well as other car types.
There are exceptions to this rule, of course, but it is a good idea to check out online resources to see how well similar models are moving before investing a great deal of time and money in a project that isn’t going to get you the profit you had hoped for. A little research can also give you an idea of the restored car projects that are trending at any given time.

I also recommend this article  2012 Paris Motor Show - Land Rover - Land Rover Press Conference

Do you know what body type sells the best? If you were to picture the ideal classic car, what would it look like? If you were to ask a multitude of people this question, chances are that a large percentage would mention a convertible.

There is something about the wind in one’s hair that is very attractive, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise that convertibles would sell faster, and for more money than hardtop versions of the same car. Another type of car that is of interest to customizers is one that includes rear-hinged, or coach, doors (also known as suicide doors). The hinges are at the back so that the doors open in reverse. These add something novel to a car.

Of course, the better outfitted a car is (regardless of year, make, and model), the more value it possesses. Research the different trim packages available on the particular model you choose and you will have a better idea of how it compares to other car types on the market in relation to restoration value.

Be Honest With Yourself. The best way to kill your profit margin is to bite off more than you can chew. Don’t let your first restoration project overwhelm you. Instead, opt for something that you know you can handle and understand where your weak points exist. Don’t be afraid to hire professional help here and there, if needed. While it may cost a little more now, it can save you money later when you might have to redo something that was done wrong the first time around.

I also recommend this article  Twelve Chrysler Group Models Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick Honors

It is equally as important to understand the limitations of the year, make, and model that you choose. All cars have advantages and disadvantages. Be sure that you are willing to accept any negatives the car type may possess in addition to the positives it offers.

Understand your commitment before you proceed with your project.
On a final note, if you are more excited about the outcome than you are about the project you are about to take on, then you might want to consider buying a fully restored car. It will be more money up front, but it can save you a lot of time, money, and headache in the future.

Taking on a project like this without the proper motivation is just asking to fail. If you are set to take on a project, then be sure to do your research, make the right connections, and buy smart.

How to Ship Your Car Overseas

How to Ship Your Car Overseas

There are many things you need to take into account if you want to ship your car overseas.

Not only does it require weeks of planning but, there are many other things that you need to decide on.

The new country would have different import rules and shipping regulations, plus you will require finding about driving license requirements.

So, before you arrive in a new country, you should be at the top of your game, as far as research is concerned. You can gather information from A1AutoTransport in addition to remembering the following points –

1. Deciding On A Shipping Company

It can be a daunting task to decide on the company that would do your shipping. You need to decide whether you want to hire a freight forwarder or a moving company. There is a difference between the two. Hiring a freight forwarder would be relatively cheaper because they involve a lot of middlemen. However, a moving company would take care of everything, from paperwork to taking your car from your house to the port, and that is an advantage.

I also recommend this article  Dacia Duster Road Test Review

Both these options are equipped to handle your import export requirements and are well versed with the laws. Also, they would provide you with shipping containers and you can choose to get your car delivered anywhere you like.

2. Decide On Kind Of Shipment

You could choose RORO (Roll On and Roll Off), by exclusive container and by consolidation in a cube. In RORO, the physical transportation isn’t much of a hassle because your car is rolled off the vessel. In exclusive container method and consolidation in a cube that is 40 feet high, your car would be driven to a container in the ship and then transported.

3. Prepare Your Documents And Insurance

Keep the registration and other ownership documents ready for later use. Your customs agency and other local agents would inform you about the other import export documents that you need to keep handy. Also, shipping and marine insurance are something you need to talk to your shipping company about.

4. Prepare Your Car For Shipment

This step would depend on the place you are getting your vehicle delivered to. Mostly, you need to ensure that your car is safe from bad weather. You might want to leave some gas in your tank and shut the car alarms. Make sure that the vehicle is in working condition and everything is fine. If there is anything valuable in or on your car, remove it. It is necessary for your own for safety.

I also recommend this article  Twelve Chrysler Group Models Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick Honors

Driving your car to the port will depend upon the kind of shipping you choose. You could ask the transport company to take your vehicle from your place but it would cost you money.

When the car has reached its destination, make sure that the person who goes there to receive the car has all the necessary identification documents. Also, his personal identification documents like ID would be important too.

4 Things to Do When You Are Involved In a Commercial Truck Accident

4 Things to Do When You Are Involved In a Commercial Truck Accident

4 Things to Do When You Are Involved In a Commercial Truck Accident
4 Things to Do When You Are Involved
In a Commercial Truck Accident

An accident between a commercial truck like an eighteen-wheeler and any other vehicle can be catastrophic.

The truck because of its sheer size and weight can create havoc if it collides with another vehicle.

If you are lucky enough to escape such an accident, you will need to know what you have to do thereafter.

Here are four basic things that you will have to do after you are involved in a commercial truck accident.

1. Prove Your Case

Like any other accident, in an accident involving a commercial truck, you will have to prove your case. You will have to show that the defendant, here the driver of the truck has been negligent in his duties and has been unsuccessful in maintaining his reasonable care when driving on the road.

In commercial truck accidents, your compensation may be paid not by the driver, but by the company that owns the truck and, therefore, you have to strongly build up your case. Consult a good Alabama truck accident attorney to help you.

2. Manage Liability From Potential Defendants

If you want to get your complete legal aid for the injuries and damage you had to suffer, you will have to identify your potential defendant. In commercial truck cases, the company usually manages the trucks and, therefore, the shipping or trucking company is responsible for the accident.

If the truck driver is an independent contractor, creating a list of potential dependents will be a little difficult since then the driver is independent from any company. The recovery of your insurance claim depends on the liability of the truck companies, contractors and they all have separate policies.

3. Claim For The Damages You Had To Suffer

After you are involved in an accident, where the driver of the commercial truck is at fault, you are liable to receive compensation. However, it is very difficult to judge how much you are to receive as compensation. It is difficult to add a price to death, injury, trauma, loss of income opportunities, etc.

I also recommend this article  5 Tips To Modify Your Car Insurance’s Premium Payment

This is where you should take the guidance of a skilled professional who will assess the damage caused to you and draw up a suitable claim amount. They will assess your medical expenditure, the damage caused to your vehicle, loss of family members and whether their death has affected your livelihood and then chalk out a claim amount.

4. Know Some Basic Policies And Laws

Commercial trucks are huge vehicles and there are some risks involved when driving them. If you are involved in an incident of jackknifing, you cannot hold the driver of the truck responsible because usually, the driver is not at fault. Jackknifing could have happened because of the slipperiness of the road as well.

Keep these basic points in mind and when you are in an accident with a commercial truck, keep calm and follow these.

The 2013 Audi A4 luxury sport sedan and the 2013 Audi S4 performance sedan gained further validation of their segment-leading attributes by earning the U.S. government’s highest crashworthiness and rollover safety rating.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the A4 and S4 achieved the coveted 5-Star designation based on their performance in the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).

The 5-star Safety Ratings System was created by NHTSA to provide consumers with information about crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles beyond what is required by statute. NHTSA gives ratings of one star for the worst performers to five stars for the best models, such as the Audi A4 and S4.

Safety is top of mind for customers in the market to purchase a luxury vehicle,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. “We are pleased to see that the safety technologies engineered into these vehicles helped both the A4 and S4 earn top marks in one of the most rigorous crash testing programs in the world.

Available adaptive cruise control measures the distance of the vehicles ahead and sends its data to a computer that weighs the information against velocity and other road variables and applies the brakes as necessary.

Once the road is safe to cruise, the A4 effortlessly accelerates back to its desired speed.

The 2013 Audi A4 and S4 also incorporate many features designed to assist drivers in navigating the road and traffic while making their driving experience more enjoyable. 3 Things to Do When Filing For a Car Insurance Claim

3 Things to Do When Filing For a Car Insurance Claim

When you sign up for car insurance plan and start paying the monthly or annual premiums for the same, you feel an odd sense of security knowing that any major mishap with the vehicle is covered and protected, financially to say the least.

While all that is true on pen and paper but the reality remains to be the fact that filing for a car insurance claim is not as simple as asking the insurer to pay the money and him transferring the money to your account.

The process of a car insurance claim is a complex one and ensuring the following 3 aspects will ensure a less hassled experience:

1. Filing The Claim At The Earliest

One of the biggest mistakes many insurance Huntington beach customers make is that they think that the car insurance will cover them and with that security they tend to delay filing for the claim against the insurance. This is owing to the fact that almost every insurance company has their own investigation to launch when you are filing for a claim and it is a time consuming process in itself.

I also recommend this article  How to Ship Your Car Overseas

Also the fact that your insurance company will act as your advocate in case the accident was not your fault is a great benefit that you shouldn’t be missing due to delinquency in filing the claim.

2. Prepare For The Other Insurance Company’s Investigation

In most cases there is a dispute between the two parties regarding the blame and burden of the accident and who should be liable to pay the insurance amount. This is why it is quite possible that you will be a part of the investigation that the other party’s insurance company launches in order to zero in on the actual cause.

This is where you might be receiving phone calls inquiring about the incident, letters and emails asking for specific details and a host of other communications. It is recommended that you document all the communications that takes place with the other party’s insurance company in order to keep it for reference and evidence in the future.

3. Get The Information Ready And Handy

You will be requiring to furnish a host of information regarding the incident, your insurance policy and other personal identifying information to the insurance provider when you are filing for your claim. This is why it is recommended that you have all of the necessary information collected and ready in one place which makes access to the same easy and efficient.

I also recommend this article  One Europe, One Driving Licence

Remember that you mustn’t delay having your own account of the incident filed and documented with yourself at the earliest. Remember that with the passage of time your memory of the event will fade and you might be incapable of recounting crucial details of the accident.

Once you have filed for your claim and have had the same approved by the insurer, you can go ahead with fixations of the vehicle with the permission of the insurance adjuster.

This is why you will need a professional car accident attorney to fight your case with the insurance provider in question. He will also ensure that you get the most fair payment that you deserve which the insurance company would had otherwise robbed you off from. Ask your lawyer to handle the proceedings with the insurance company and avoid establishing direct contact.

2. The Statue Of Laminations

One of the mistakes many car owners commit is that they think that they will not need to hire a car accident lawyer currently and they can instead contact one and hire him when and if an accident takes place that involves the car. This is an extremely lousy attitude owing to the fact that hiring a car accident lawyer is a time consuming process and you might soon find out that you are too alter in filing a legal complaint against the miserly compensation hat your insurance company is offering.

The statue of limitations which is the duration beyond which you can’t appeal against a case with the court of law varies from state to state and you will need to ensure that you have a car accident lawyer with you the moment something goes wrong and don’t wait for one to be hired after the damage is done.

3. Ease Of Payment

One of the best things about hiring a car accident lawyer is the fact that you will not need to pay them unless you have received your payment from the car insurer that you are supposed to get. Yes, some of the lawyers want a nominal advance fee payment but there are lawyers who will accept a contingency payment if your case is a strong one.
